Addressing universal issues with 96

Any thoughts on this?

So we have our die-hard fan of tw on this world forum (yet he don't play) who has questions about how we - the legit part of the world as well as the devil incarnate (obey) - play the game and so on.

As threads are getting derailed massively by all sorts of aggressive and defensive beating around the bush, this thread would serve as a neutral ground to serenely and soberly discuss various points.

I'd like the inspiration for this, universal thought, to pose the first coherent question. Then everyone can bombard him with information.

alright, why do you make premades when you know that the increasingly shrinking worlds, or rather players that make it to midgame, will only make up about a fourth of the world? when did premades become the norm?

People make premades for three major reasons:

1. They don't want to play in shitty tribes and the majority of grass root tribes have bad leadership due to the lack of world class leaders playing the game nowadays.

2. They want to win worlds for free and the easiest way to do so is to cram the best lineup into one tribe and work from there since there is no way any other tribe has a chance of matching that just from local recruitment alone.

3. They want to play with friends they played with in past worlds.

Generally it's a combination of these.

I get #3, but any good player can lead a tribe if they want to.

why don't you make friends?

I made loads of friends, after having played here for more than 11 years. I meet new people near daily, some mail me about something random, others I meet trough the Mentoring system.
Most people I meet trough Skype though, which is probably why I have so many damn Skype contacts.

Premades were not always the norm, they just gradually became a part of the game when players got back to the game or started a new world along their main world to toy a bit on with friends they made there.
Usually these would be mid game players on older worlds, people who knew how this game worked and as an extension of that, they were usually better prepared than completely new players.
The format caught on and people proceeded with making groups like this more and more, a lot of them actually didn't amount to much in the pre w60 era, only in recent years has the difference really begun to show this much.

But still, for a lot of people its fun to play with friends.

There is a lot of toxicity with that. Players have become more and more demanding of the ones in charge. A good duke needs to be able to respond to and act upon issues very fast and doesn't allow for a lot of downtime. Such a task is basically a job and far more time consuming than most players would care for.

? I mentor at least 3 people every world :)
And I also make plenty of friends out of newer players as well. Though more often than not after having taught them about this game and how rough it is on newer people. They don't tend to stay.
And in OBEY itself I've met about 50 people I hadn't met before of which some are becoming friends now.

I don't think anyone in escape on w95 would say that I treated it like a job

The mentoring system is in place for veterans to teach those noobs. So yes, h0lly helps noobs. I'd say he is doing that often.
my mentor kept only telling me to build stables and barracks when I could barely keep my ques up as it was...

That's unfortunate. If you disagree with a mentor you can dismiss him though and request a new one.
It's good to be critical to your instructions from your mentor, to help further your own development. Blindly following orders is never a good thing imo.

anyways, off subject. my next question is why didn't you all in the tw community reject p2w when it was first enacted?
