How long after a player is banned before you can attack and take over their village? What happens to the village? Does it become abandoned before you can attack?

exactly. Usually it's 10 days, but this can vary and the village then becomes abandoned.
Note that you can support a banned village, but not attack. Send in 1 spy and you'll get a report as soon as someone attacks the village.

Absolutely!
In fact, it's best to send JUST your noble! Don't scout the village first, either! (This works great for 10,000+ point villages!)

Thats great advice, but better yet, how about send 3k axe wielding emmisaries with the noble for a 100 point village. I'm so glad to get good advice in this forum.

Hmmm. It took me 4 shots with a noble to capture an abandoned village..
