Back in the days, when you joined a world after it opened (no prereg) you were allowed to choose the direction you wanted to spawn.
With the addition of relocation item, this was removed, dunno why...
The setting is still called "Choose Starting Direction", which actually just means "you get relocation item"
This might also be a good addition to this suggestion i did this summer, esp when using deactivated setting on worlds.

Bring back the option to start in a direction when joining the world. There is no reason to just spawn you randomly.
