Do you lose BP early if you attack players?

I'm wondering if I will lose beginner protection as soon as I start attacking other players or only when the time runs out? I saw a good guide which suggested that when BP ends you can start attacking but didn't actually mention you can't before that. The game doesn't give a warning about attacking but I just want to be sure. Would be a shame to leave those fresh 26 point villages alone for no reason.

Sorry if this question has been asked before, I bet it has, but I couldn't find the information anywhere on the forums or help page.

you can attack before your bp ends, it will not go away.
