We have a thread about BDB1 - basically he was alone in k55 surrounded by Hippos. In retrospect, he never had a chance. At the time, losing the village added to the Myth of the Hippo that had grown.

News of our weakness must have spread to other Hippos - they started attacking in a couple of other places.

Hippos couldn't have known that the Center guys were feeding us information that allowed us
to keep Hippos out of k54.

So the battlelines had been drawn - Hippos would dominate k55, and CND and Center would
share k54. I was near the frontline with Hippos, and it's fair to say my entire foreign policy
was based on Hippos, the way the British used to obsess over India. Until they collapsed, though,
I never had any contact with any Hippo.

Their charistmatic leader, Openeye, was clearly a great leader and good player, but sadly (for him),
he was dangerously positioned in k54...

This is some awesome reading, Beardsey, and I thank you for sharing your histories!

So few players remain who remember the earliest days of the battle for the core.

Hahaha, OpenEye's most common rallying quote to us was "TW > sex." It was a sad day indeed when OpenEye's automobile was hit side-on at 70 miles an hour, flipped over 7 times and landed upside-down on top of another car. He just vanished from the internet.... and for a man who lived, ate and breathed Hippos to suddenly vanish, although we didn't know then what had happened, we soon feared the worst.

The good news is that despite punctured lungs and emergency brain surgery, and a recovery that took months, OpenEye did live! He eventually recovered, went back to school, and finished his Law degree.

I like to refer to Hippos as "the cult of OpenEye." It was his personal charisma that assembled the pre-made, and kept it in the #1 position despite 8 of the top 10 tribes opposing us (you are right, he had made a deal with HRV). Everyone in the tribe was there for him. Personally. With the cult leader mysteriously missing, the tribe struggled on in anguish watching his villages fall. I remember through my tears, wanting to support him, being told by my mates "Even OpenEye would tell you to pull support from any yellow account." When the day came that he regained the capacity to let us know what happened, and decided he would not return to the game, that was the day Hippos died... even though it was a little longer before the tribe formerly disbanded and to the victors went the spoils.

O:O:O:O:O:O:... CND had a mejor role in the world indeed... i remember threads stating that due to the merger.. no one would stop C² from conquering the world..
When i played i remember CND was one of the tribes with best defence.. after came HRV and Plight wards.. but they were 1/4 our size and gave a tremendous fight.

This threads brings me a lot of memorys.. like when Funkmun (original) invited me to C² when no one knew who we were

.. after kicked me.. and took me back in the tribe when i was active again.

I used to play carminevigna acc.. after getting 1# spot i stopped playing (really was consuming a LOT of time in my life).. like 1 year ago.. its nice to see the tribe was able to acomplish victory in this world.. congrats.

Openeye

Continuing from what I said last time about Openeye being a top leader, I found a thread in our archive where I'd posted a link to his TeachU guide. We were mostly experienced players, but we had a few newbies and I doubt there's a better guide anywhere.

Ties between CND and Center had strengthened, with little bits of co-operation here, bits of chat there. One topic that came up over and over again was the strength of Hippos compared with their geographical separation. Yes, they were skilled players, but it's hard to defend over great distances. And Openeye was a juicy target, right in our k54 backyard. Planning began on a joint op to rim him. All work was done on Skype or whatever, so there's no record until it started happening.

As we now know, Openeye had been in an accident and was inactive, so we didn't get the ding-dong fisticuffs we expected.

It seems Openeye had a very serious accident in real life, which is why he went so inactive so suddenly. It would be in bad taste to gloat about his rimming so please don't post about this on the public forums.

I would guess a HIPPOS player informed him of this, I do believe something serious must have happend as openeye ain't the guy who just end up inactive. Hope everything is well.

It changes nothing, we press ahead. If he returns we could offer him some goods in good spirit as well as an offer of friendship in the hope that he recovers well. I think any one of us would hate it if any RL events affected how others viewed us here.

Absolutely, best wishes to the guy and hope he recoveers from whatever happened to him. I'm sure he'll understand about his villages.

It is a testament to the outstanding players and level of gameplay that this world is STILL discussed years later. Onaryc... themonkey.... Openeye.... really brings back memories. Extremely spirited PnP, a large measure of respect between opponents, wide-ranging well-coordinated operations, this was truly one of my favorite worlds.

It was very unfortunate what happened to OE. Nobody on our side wanted to "win" that way. Once it became public what had happened we all felt terribly guilty, and because our plan wasn't devised for solely for tactical reason because OE, especially at the time, was an iconic figure and taking him out would send a message that extended beyond just taking a few villages. That message was of course nullified once it was discovered the reason behind his disappearance, and we didn't feel good about it.

Norach summed it up pretty succinctly on how we handled it knowing what we knew at the time.

Life in CND wasn't all perfectly backtimed attacks and solid defence. It was also a place for weird, surreal fun.

Scuff's Challenges
Scuffer used to post some weird game he'd found and offer premium points to players with high scores. As if TW wasn't time-consuming enough!
The first one was Garden Gnome Carnage:

Then I invented 'Noob Empathy Weekend.' Instead of just killing noobs left, right, and centre, we decided to try and understand them.
We did some research on noobs and changed our profiles to try to out-noob them.

Some of the profiles were amazing! Sadly, only bits and pieces remain in the archives to show glimpses of our genius.

It's the most hugest and massivist sword in the whole of world 16. There's loads of really cool swirls and edges and stuff on it and everything. I've stuck CND in there, cuz we neva FAIL. Honestly, it's well wikked, dawg. There's even a teeny-tiny little shield next to it, which is just absolutely darling.

It's just very far away, so you might not quite be able to make out the details.

Stupsi was the winner - he had a funny story as his profile, which ingeniously tied together all kinds of strands of noobness.

Fake Dukes

The people who needed to know who I was, knew who I was. I'm thinking of the dukes of tribes like HRV, ORC, C2. But I didn't want all the little nooblings and their noob lords writing to me all day, like on world 9. So most of the time we didn't have a stated duke. Then when we did, it was poor evilcorp who got the honour.

For a short time that I played in HRV on an account they provided me with, it was probably the most fun I had with this game. HRV was by far the best tribe I played in (well, XVI certainly had more potential, but coordination in HRV was just amazing...I remember one time we took so many towns in one coordinated attack, it was pure fun. Some of us were sending trains few days of distance).

Shit, this game left me so many memories.

I seem to remember occasions where people we attacked who then eiter attacked us or mailed us were somewhat confused when we told them that we did not accept wars !!!!

you're forgeting the random little tribes we added to our ally list and someone went ahead and set themselves blue in the map I remember a frantic email from someone saying that why are we attacking cause we are allies.. This was like 2 months after that weekend and we all forgot about it at first ...
