The quality of the threads and posts on that board is just terrible. Pure unrelenting stupidity.

Just like W50 :p /b/ and W50 Externals arent that different. The only difference is, there isnt any gore or pornography splattered all over here :p

Anyway, welcome mate. Hit me up ingame :D

So I am kinda new in town... I am looking for a tribe. What are some things to look out for? I am an active member and love the politics of games like this.

Let me try to answer the original question.

As I read it, you WEREN'T looking for a particular tribe (which would have gone in the other section), but looking for some general advice on how to find a tribe.

That strikes me as more on-topic than 95% of what this forum has become (though I have higher hopes now Tyr has become forum mod.)

You want to find a tribe that is:

- Reasonably powerful in your K (100x100 square)
- With perhaps one member within about 8 fields of you (so you can get support from someone local if you need it.)
- No more than one member in an area with a radius of about 6 fields, so that you aren't continually arguing within your tribe about who can attack which enemies / barbs. (Tribes with high densities of low-point members are called "mass recruiters".)
- Has a leader who knows what they are doing, and is able to strike the right balance between giving overall direction and trying to micro-manage
- Has a diplomat who is respected (which, at this stage of W50 realistically means a diplomatic with good credentials from another world, since it's too early for the top tribes to have settled down and diplomatic representation to be obvious.)
- Has a bunch of players who are active (twstats.com is your friend here - you are looking for consistent growth each day, rather than fits and starts)
- Has a bunch of players who are willing to help you both play and learn

Now the bad news:

It is nigh on impossible to discover this until you've been IN a tribe for a while... or unless you have played with some of the leadership on another world. Hence, you need to join someone who looks a likely bet, but be willing to admit it's not working out after a couple of days if you discover you're not getting the help you need.

Now the worse news:

World 50 is not only a "special number" world, but a 2x (double-speed) world. This has attracted a reasonable number of "premade" tribes - ie tribes of people who know each other from another world.... not necessarily because they were in a tribe together, but with sufficient experience of each others' playing styles to be able to function. It is very, very, difficult to get into such a tribe... not impossible (I did it on W38, basically because I impressed a pre-made in the way I handled forum relations for a war against them - they won but picked a few of us into them as part of the surrender.)

Play actively, and try to learn from more experienced players, and you should do well... Just accept that you are very, very, unlikely to find the "right" tribe for you in the first one you join.

Hope this helps.

Great advice, I think is one of the first good and helpful posts i see in the entire W50 section. I will add that if he really want so to learn he should stick around the forums as well. I see he started with the correct step by posting here, even though all the people is just not giving advice at all. But in forums you'll find all the the strategies and information you need to know to succeed. Maybe this can be your first try and then after a while playing you can take some other worlds according to the time you are going to invest on the game or the settings you like. You might take a while until you find what you exactly want.

I hope you enjoy.

One last thing I would like to add to this. Try to avoid family tribes (multiple tribes that are "branches" of the original tribe to bypass the member limit of a tribe.) Despite the old saying that strength is found in numbers, it's not quite true in this game for a tribe. Smaller, more organized tribes are better than large tribes with troubles organizing.

Thank you so much for the advice. I have been looking for a game like this. (playing with people not a program)
I took all your advice and came up with I will make one of my own and try to keep it simple and small for now until I get to know this game better.

I wish there was more player like you in this game.

I got a few more Q:s

What is a good place on the forums to look up local politics?
What dose it mean on my map "K33"?

K33 means that you are on Continent 33. The TW map system is a 1000x1000 grid with 100 continents that are 100x100. When a world starts people go to 44,45,54, or 55 (The Core) and then the world spreads outward in a circle.

Here's an image of how the Continents are situated.

Just to add to an already excellent explanation:

The K is the FIRST DIGITS of your co-ordinates IN REVERSE ORDER.

So if you are 123|456, you will be in K41...

The four central Ks - 44, 45, 54, 55 are known as "the core", because they are the centre of the world. The outside edge of the world is known as the rim.

New players are introduced to the world in a set of spirals that start with the oldest players in the middle, and the later players to join near the edge.

Because of this, the rim isn't a fixed place - it moves over time. Because if your only/last village is conquered you restart (normally) on the rim, then completely destroying a player is known as "sending to the rim."

There is a randomisation factor though, so over a few days, players will appear both further out and closer to you. Different worlds have different "density" settings, so on some worlds nearly all the squares fill up with villages eventually, but on others, very few do.

Tribes want to apply a basical military principle - overwhelming application of force in a local area. Because of this, a tribe could, in principle, be spread over any local area - say the area bounded by 450|450 (top left) to 549|549 (bottom right), and that would cover a 100x100 square...
... however, because of the way that TW presents "continent rankings", tribes tend to align themselves, in the early days at least, with continent boundaries.

And finally, I believe it's called "K", because the German word for Continent starts with a K rather than a C ... and Innogames is a German company, with the German servers around for a while before the English-language version of the game was launched.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Mark
