How come that attack I sent didn't arrive back inbetween his two attacks? the journey time was 35:00 you see. Its as though they returned early somehow

All attacks return on the :000 millisecond. While your attack may have hit the barb at the specific ms between his attacks [your publicized report only shows seconds], when it comes home it lands on the :000ms

Barb bounce sniping only works when the noble train crosses the second, ie if his first attack landed on :47 and the second on :48. Both of his attacks landed on the :48 second which means you cannot barb bounce.

You would need to cancel snipe this - when you cancel an attack, the troops return on the ms that they would have landed (ie if the original attack would have landed on the :450ms mark, if you cancel it returns home on the :450ms mark)
