Minor Bug- Major Effects: Account Sitting

Over a week ago, I was unexpectedly required to go away.
I managed to arrange for a friend to sit my account, and just before I left, I entered his name in the box for account sitting.
Moemnts ago, when I came back, I logged in only to find the message:
"You have asked to be you your account sitter, but they have not accepted yet...."
When I withdrew my 'request' I found I had of course lost my entire army, wall, and all but the first level of farm. As you can imagine, I was not impressed.

Although I doubt I will attain any recompense (no doubt it is my fault for not noticing when I set my sitter) this is an obvious bug. That the system should fail to read what I had inputted is bad enough.... but that it should allow (no-name) to be set as account sitter rather than delivering an error message is even worse.

I am considering giving up World Two after this event, and focusing my efforts on my formerly lesser account in world One. However I greatly hope this bug will be rectified.

When you set an account sitter, a message is sent to your requester asking that they accept the request. If they do not accept (or read the message) then there is no account sitter.

Account sitting is voluntary (sp?) so you should check with your (requested) account sitter before you send the request just to be sure they actually WANT to sit your account.

Sorry to say, (no pun to Microsoft) this isn't a bug but actually a feature put in place to ensure that someone actually wants to sit the account.

Well if something has happened to the sitter that would be a problem for them. I think it would be a good idea if,
someone has had a account sitting request sent to then
If the sitter does not accept in the first 5 days then it will become a choice for either a duke/baron to be able to take control of their account and account sit it untill they return.

Do I understand you correctly, that you tried to type a non-existing name to sit your account?
Right, I noticed before that there is no, say, verification to ensure that the player set as account sitter at least exists. The easiest solution would be to make the sitter's name linked to his profile - one click would be enough to see if the name is spelled correctly.

Skymage, the problem is not that my friend did not accept the offer, but that it was not sent to him.
Santana, a good suggestion.
stephentw, haven't seen you around.
drias, you're by far the closest. The problem was not that the account did not exist, but that the system failed to register the name when I submitted the offer.
The message I got told be that I had offered " " the account to sit. I had submitted the name of an account that most definitely exists- they were able to sit successfully in the other world.

So in the message about not being activated it said "you have asked _ to be your account sitter and they have not yet accepted?" (or words similar?)

It sounds to me like you mistyped the name in the field. I've never had a problem with giving or accepting account sitter access - excepting of course when people give me their accounts without asking me first.

It sounds like you mistyped your friends user name and accidently offered your account to someone else. If you still have the reports check to make sure.
You can't offer account sitting to nonexisting users.

The other possibility is that the account sitter he chose never accepted the account sitting request. Its possible that the request got deleted, or was never viewed, or was never accepted under Settings>>Account sitting. Thus, not really the systems fault, but instead , not making sure your account sitter knows how to sit the account.

Skymage, Bumpy, you ain't readin' gud.

the system would say "...[whatevername] didn't accept your..." if there had been a typo or the selected sitter didn't accept it. Instead, it treated that field as blank. There should be a validation on that field at submission time and an error thrown if the name is blank or invalid.

My dear Curlwomble there is a validation on that field at the point of submission.
Skymage and I have outlined the two most likely causes of this incident. It is not our reading but your comprehension that ain't gud

Hmmm, Does he have an account in the world you wanted him to sit in?? I believe he needs one.

I will point this thread out to HooDoo and the Developers.
I'll ask them to check the logs. You should probably put in a service request as well.
Sorry for misreading your initial post.

I have just checked it again, the message is send in world 1 AND in world 2. I don't believe that you entered the right nick and he did not get the message.

It is possible of course that you entered no name, or a wrong name. I will take a look at it and find a way to prevent that from happening.
