New Paladin Question

I'm a little confused about how the new paladins work. I get it that they improve the defense of the village they are stationed in. But if you move the paladin to support an ally's village, do the bonuses apply to the village that the paladin is supporting? Or do they only apply to the village "back home" where he is stationed? If they don't apply to the village he's currently supporting, then it seems that there is no reason to ever use a paladin in support.

The paladin defensive bonuses effect the village where is at the time. I.e if you paladin from village 'a' is supporting village 'b', 'b' will be getting the bonuses.
