So there's a point in time in early game when a thousand players at once switch from building wood/clay(and iron) to building smithies and recruiting Lcav.
Up until this point, everyone's offering iron surplusses demanding clay.
After this point, the market flips upside down and iron is not available.
You see the result in the troops ratio; 50% more AXes than usual (compared to lcav) ~ check the world info page
The point about disabling the PP exchange market is that the community wants a world without "PPay to win"
Trading with the village merchant is not pay to win; 'coz trading with the village merchant would solve the market issue for everyone (coz you can just trade 75k in one go, then spend the day trading with your fellow tribies; if only a few players do this, then the market problem is resolved for everyone, coz demand for iron would decrease dramatically, normalising the market.
Without the ability to trade with the villa merchant, You gotto choose between recruiting cavalry or building smithy lvls which is an impossible choice
due to the lack of iron, recruiting Heavy Cavalry is not an option at all, which is a shame coz I love mixing my 1st village while maintaining offensive power.
