I apologise in advance if this has already been addressed or if I am being daft here...whenever I send out individual scouts, when farming, they keep dying. I know the solution will be to send more out but I would rather not do that when microfarming. Any idea why this is?

Yes, it is because of the world settings. Use 4 scouts to get complete report and no dead scout. :/

Thank you for both of your replies, obvious answer when you know it! I have just gotten so used to getting by with 1 scout. Thanks a lot.
