I think a lot of people confuse activity with ability. You can certainly be successful with a surplus the former making up for a lack of the latter. But you can say that about nearly any kind of online game really it's not a TW phenomenon.

Also early and late game both suck. The real fun is the mid game when the really bad players have been weeded out and it's not yet a snooze-fest :D

good luck not landing next to anyone who knows how to start up. There's a decent chance you get away with not knowing how to play.
they could start next to me :|
i am playing w96 :|
in fact, since i'm leading and it pleases me to be contradictory to matt, i believe this player shows real potential o_O

Still Going Strong
Matt I've won 3 worlds in a row and they were battles of skill all the way until the final war was decided. Early game you enjoy, no need to explain. Mid game is a diplomatic cluster f*** and a lot of wars + ops. Late game the rank 1 has to fight rank 2 or sometimes rank 2+3+4+5 etc and the smaller tribes wont win just by being "available" they have to use teamwork and strategy combined with activity to win.

The rank 1 tribe also has to use team work and strategy to win or the smaller tribes will take them out. Its too much work for you apparently, thats fine, others enjoy it. Bottom line, what a world win "means" to someone is in the eye of the beholder bud :)

I know plentiful mid-late game specialists who are absolutely trash at startup. Ignorance of the perfect farming combinations and/or build plan on start up/first village does not always define a good player from a bad one.

Well they never understood why HC are the most formidable unit in the game... So DA has a point.
Nauz actually agrees with you afaik at least last we spoke of HC, which is why it's bizzare DA brought him and I up given our opinions on HC differ greatly (I assume that's what he means by not understanding units).

HC are far from the most formidable unit h0lly (scouts man!) come on, of course they are useful in some circumstances, I've always argued strongly against them because arguing against the status quo is fun! And calling people idiots is fun too! Most people think they are needed when they really aren't though. Frontline defense (unless 3 tech then you need to make a big decision) and when you are losing more infantry defense than you can build in the barracks make sense, as I quit during mid-game pretty much all the time rarely reach the stage where they are useful of course! Sensible defence/offence ratios can be way more important during that stage than what build you use to be honest.

However, building HC before you have a solid income from your economy means you have to farm harder to keep up, and early game through to midgame (perhaps 30 villages before it tapers off and you start being able to get up noble counts) if you can get away with not building them you gain villages more quickly, more economy, more barracks etc. Anecdotally, on the last 4 or 5 worlds I've played I've managed to out build (defence and village wise) all but a handful of HC accounts whilst being out farmed by many of them until I quit. And regularly had the most support out either in my own villages or tribe mate's :/

And DA I used to be a "trash start up" player, I have no problem admitting that but I haven't really been for 6+ years. Much prefer mid-game (30k+ imo where you have enough troops to make proper decisions and an economy to avoid the need to farm), it is the most interesting part of the game by far. Some of us evolve, some of us stay Neanderthals stuck in some sort of startup vs late game gimmick despite both being pretty equivalent in activity requirements, which is pretty much the argument used by both sides to put the other down. I don't particularly know what secondary opinions you've been given of me, but they aren't particularly accurate! It's nice to be mentioned though. (MATT I AM SUPER FAMOUS PEOPLE KNOW ME SEE)

Oh I just mentioned random players that came to my head at the time cause I was just on a windup, was gonna make the list far longer, but etc. seemed to do the trick.

Again there is a difference between being able to play actively for a bit and for years Thomas, secondly the crux of the argument was that if your criteria for being better than the other person is landing far enough away from the other person that they can't rim you until 6 months have passed that's not being better than them. Some of the human race evolved a back bone to say unpopular but correct statements some stayed in the Homo habilias erra of being e-cool by saying that all sides are equal.

Da I don't see how your plan worked, I wound everyone up then you tried to troll and immediately got called out that's not succeeding if you get called out on just saying shit to stir things up before anyone gets stirred up

Hey Matt for the record I didn't read any of your argument about startup vs late game, but I really didn't read any of your posts apart from the one about us being friends! <3
I've only really read what h0lly said about HC & the fact a few people linked me saying I was called trash so I NEEDED TO DEFEND MYSELF. I'm not sure how that's lacking a backbone but cool whatever.

I've have no qualms admitting I didn't read this thread so haven't seen the crux of your argument, which I believe whilst accurate in terms of what it represents "players can survive by not being near good players doesn't implictly make a good player", I think it doesn't consider that that such a tiny proportion are actually good it can apply to most players, including many who are "successful" starters. I certainly don't believe longevity is a measure of ability though.

Anyway I feel no need to yell on the forums about late game being "bad" because of this. I know it is, everyone who knows me knows I think that. I don't really care to recycle the arguments. There's probably just as many "bad" players "succeeding" (rather than just existing) through startup though (dependant on your yardstick, I can think of plenty activity abuse "farm farm farm" pointwhore top 5 start-up accounts over the years, including some of my own). Most account and players are pretty terrible at all points, in all honesty. I certainly don't recall saying all sides are equal, what I did say was both sides are an activity slog. One is logging in every day for x amount, one is logging in all day for y days.

This game is typically just getting the most active accounts together at any stage and with a modicum of teamwork and you'll do well.

I just don't really care about pissing contests here anymore, people (not just you) seem to put too much value in being right on the internet. (Although to most that is a huge part of the appeal of the tw forums I guess, I certainly used to feel that way)

For the record I believe from nobling your first village up until 200-300k in theory to be the "hardest" if you can get there your account should be fairly strong. In agreement with you, that assumes a tough location and that's pretty rare (at any stage). Most people can coast till late game if they are at all "decent" (assuming they aren't playing without a tribe/decent tribe). Meeting a good opponent earlier on is definitely a disadvantage compared to meeting them later on though (even if you win), defence gets more powerful as time goes on whilst offense becomes less powerful. So of course it is. Succeeding at early game is a precursor to continued success. If you die then you're screwed. The number of "decent" opponents is tiny though, most people are probably nowhere near them and instead get beaten by someone more active (which isn't all that different to being out lasted).

Yeah don't bother they're subpar if they get lucky and near no start up players they'll catch up in mid game from dedication but they don't understand how to farm or build

[6:15:53 PM] Matt!?!: Hey
[6:21:03 PM] KeldeeoR: Hey
[6:25:21 PM] Matt!?!: Soooooo in a non p2w world
[6:25:38 PM] Matt!?!: What would you expect to have exiting BP in terms of troops
[6:27:23 PM] KeldeeoR: I don’t know all English :) what is bp ? But if you say what troops should I do on a world without premium exchange I build stable to 10-15 (depends) and farm a lot with horses
[6:28:00 PM] Matt!?!: Beginners protection when you can start attacking other players
[6:28:17 PM] KeldeeoR: Oh ok
[6:28:25 PM] Matt!?!: P2w is a world you can buy res so I'm saying one you can't buy them
[6:28:46 PM] KeldeeoR: I know.
[6:31:40 PM] KeldeeoR: Make 50-100 spear depending on how many barbarians I have. I farm with spear and paladin in the first day. If is simple cercetation I make swordsman if not I make axeman.
[6:32:00 PM] KeldeeoR: Then I upgrade to 10 and never stand
[6:32:13 PM] KeldeeoR: Build troops and farm 24/24
[6:33:14 PM] Matt!?!: How do you farm
[6:33:17 PM] Matt!?!: What method
[6:33:31 PM] KeldeeoR: With assistant
[6:33:56 PM] Matt!?!: Yeah how
[6:35:01 PM] KeldeeoR: 1-2 lc it depends on distance. And swordsman with spear in the way they don’t die
[6:35:17 PM] KeldeeoR: I mean 2-4 lc
[6:35:40 PM] Matt!?!: So you just send out 1 attack of 2-4 spears to all of the villages around you?
[6:35:49 PM] Matt!?!: Or many attacks at once
[6:35:53 PM] Matt!?!: To each village
[6:36:16 PM] KeldeeoR: 2-4 light cavalry
[6:36:35 PM] KeldeeoR: I have 10 barbarians I send 2-4 to all
[6:36:43 PM] KeldeeoR: Dude we know to play
[6:37:06 PM] Matt!?!: So you'd have 1 attack out to each barb or Like 10 attacks on each one
[6:37:22 PM] KeldeeoR: 1
[6:37:56 PM] Matt!?!: What would you build after you have lc
[6:39:17 PM] KeldeeoR: After mines I rush to noble
[6:39:33 PM] KeldeeoR: Wall 20, mines 20-20-20
[6:40:50 PM] Matt!?!: Okay so you don't know how to farm or build thanks for the answers
[6:40:59 PM] KeldeeoR: xD
[6:41:22 PM] KeldeeoR: You win at least 1 world ?
[6:41:44 PM] KeldeeoR: You will watch us if we know to play on W96
[6:42:00 PM] KeldeeoR: With all trash talkers
[6:42:10 PM] Matt!?!: You'll catch up in mid to late game if you don't land near people who can play
[6:42:23 PM] Matt!?!: But you don't know how to farm or build in early game
[6:42:52 PM] KeldeeoR: xD ok. I have my stile and I win many worlds. You have you’re stole and you win ...
[6:43:40 PM] Matt!?!: Style doesn't have much to do with it your methods are just ineffective in terms of build up. Winning worlds and starting property are totally different
[6:44:11 PM] KeldeeoR: How you say. I’m noob and I win manny worlds
[6:44:31 PM] KeldeeoR: What is you’re name in game ?
[6:52:08 PM] Matt!?!: I use aliases in most worlds but that doesn't have anything to do with you not understanding how to farm
[6:52:23 PM] KeldeeoR: Pahahaha
[6:52:44 PM] KeldeeoR: So you’re map is blue ? Hahaha good to know. We don’t need you
maybe im just a noob, but this is pretty standard? 20/20/20 pits unless youre abusing the shit out of the PP market and not building up res? stable lvl 10-15 for LC? farming with 1-2 LC? i dont get the part where matt thinks this guy is so wrong

the main thing that sticks out reading that(and one thing matt was clearly trying to get at within the convo) is that the guy appears to have no idea what microfarming even is
