Tech levels

hey all just want to get something clarified about tech levels.

if you have lets say level 1 spear and level 1 sword in your own village, but you support someone that has level 3 spear and level 3 sword. dont those troops take on whatever tech level is built in the supported village.

i just want clarification for some friends plz

They support that village at level 4.

1 + 3 = 4

But if you send spears AND swords isn't it

1 + 3 + 1 + 3 = 8

So I think they defend at level 8
