Eyup All,

Just to let you know, I, Petn, will be your Elder here for the forseeable future, and your mod until we hire someone for w57. This thread will be used by me, and hopefully by my successor, as a means to keep you all updated regarding moderation announcements - statements regarding rules that are being consistently broken, reminders, and will also serve as a Q&A of sorts if you have questions regarding specific rules - questions, mind, not discussion (if you wish to discuss or argue a rule, I will happily deal with it in PM, or you may post it for consideration in the Forum Moderation Discussion Forum) - this is the place to ask them. Remember, that's General moderation questions here, specific moderation questions/complaints by PM. I will systematically delete posts in here to tidy them up as questions are answered (and will either edit the question +answer into this post or make a new post). I will be being quite harsh on spam in here, as it is an important thread. Please bear that in mind.

As a first reminder, I would remind you all that while I will allow a certain amount of off-topic meandering at the opening of a world, as I realise people are excited and such, I will not be allowing outright spam, nor will I leave threads with no starting substance. Similarly, as the world progresses, I will be less lenient on offtopic within threads; this is a new world, and there's always a lot to talk about, there's no need to derail threads. Remember, the General Discussion forum is there to satisfy your spamming needs, not the P&P forum.

Right, I've cleaned up this thread and locked it as I evidently need somewhere to post announcements.

First of all, I'm sorry for going inactive for a bit there, RL got in the way. Secondly, I am really not happy with the vicious turn this forum took in the time I was away. I am going to go through every active thread and clean up any offensive posting I find, and as much of the spam as I can.

Thirdly, the spam stops now. I have been lenient thus far, but there is enough happening at this point that there really is no reason to spam. This includes the posting of a picture with no accompanying text, random comments that aren't related to the topic, offtopic comments that derail the thread, and stopping to have a chat with another user in the middle of a discussion.

Fourthly, you will be getting a real mod soon, just to warn you.

Finally, I will be opening a Q&A thread, to account for the lack of one now, but I am going to prioritise cleaning up the mess that is this forum. FOr the time being, if anyone has a question, they can PM me.

It has come to my attention that a number of users have thought it ok to post Rickrolling links to a site which messes with a number of the more popular browsers. This is not and never will be allowed, and if anyone continues to post them they will find themselves on a short holiday from the forums.

Please keep in mind that simply posting "+1" on a thread does not contribute to it, clutters the thread further, and is therefore both off-topic and spam. If I continue to see these sorts of posts, I shall simply infract without prior warning. Simples.

A couple of reminders:
  • When quoting a person, it is always a good idea to read the entirety of their post. Anybody found quoting something that contains profanities will be punished alongside the original poster.
  • Please refrain from "double posting". There are a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, I'm the poor sod who has to merge them together and to be perfectly honest with you, it's a dull and boring job. Secondly, it's simply deemed a rude practice. Oh... and the TW Forum Rules states that it's bad as well. "Avoid double posting! You have access to both the 'edit' and the 'multi-quote' buttons, use them.
  • The term "idiot" is deemed an insulting word. Therefore, anybody found using it to insult others will be punished accordingly.
  • Finally, please refrain from derailing perfectly good topics. I have nothing against topic evolution, however, stupid off-topic posts and blatant spam are punishable offenses.

And finally, if you see something that you don't like, please use the report button. It'll makes the forums a safer place for all and will point out any problems that we have as a community, whereby the rules are concerned.
That's all for now.

Regarding the recent spate of bans that have occured ingame on this world, I refer to this post, made in the now locked topic on the subject:

As much as we like to endorse freedom of speech and all that lark, and as satisfying as it is to find that some of those who were dominating the world were doing so illegally, we do still have rules, as was kindly pointed out (and ignored, tut tut!) earlier on in this thread. People have broken the rules ingame, and they have been punished for it. Perhaps some have been punished unjustly, in which case they can appeal their bans. Perhaps there are some that haven't been caught, in which case people should send in tickets about it if they suspect. Neither of these actions include posting on the forum, and there's no need to discuss it further.

Regarding the topic, I think it's worth noting that cheating is in no way new, but neither does it mean that everyone who was getting 20k+ plunders a day is automatically cheating. There are very fast, optimised ways of playing TW which just involve being well organised, and generally using opera :p There are freely distributed farming scripts using a cookie system with which you can, not easily, but possibly achieve these sort of numbers. If any of you need proof, I am sure there are plenty of people in this thread who could elaborate. There will always be cheaters, and we will always do our best to catch them, but as always, we would ask you all to heed the rules, and not chatter about it on the forums. If only ever leads to name-calling, flaming and nasty arguments.

As a result, I'm locking this thread. What has been said has been said, and in the interest of understanding that people need to vent, I'm leaving this undeleted, and I am not punishing anyone for their posts. I would however say to anyone reading this, to take some comments with a pinch of salt. Similarly, if anyone feels the need to make another thread on this subject will not be receiving the same courtesy. You have had your fun, and now it stops!

As always, if there is anything you want to ask about, or if you wish to convince me that this thread should be reopened, feel free to PM me.

~Petn

Please respect this and refrain from bringing this up in the forum. We all know it happened, and we all know the consequences. There is no need to continue discussing it :)

Sexually Implicative Posting

There has been a recent spate of very euphemistic posting, some with small implications and others with outright sexual content. I would like to draw your attentions to this part of the rules:

Extreme content
Anything deemed politically or religiously extreme, pornographic, illegal, or unsavory in any way is prohibited in this game whether posted or referenced. Racist or ethnic bashing comments are forbidden even if used in jest. Mentioning drugs is allowed, but comments that play down the use of illegal drugs or promote the use of said substances are strictly forbidden. Please note that starring out characters like "F*ck" does not make it any less a swear word. It is still perfectly understandable and still intentionally offensive, and thus is forbidden in all forms. This is Similarly the case for Acronyms such as GTFO or STFU. The meanings are known, and they are warnable or infractable offences.

This is a PG13 forum, people. While I realise that some of you like flirting, and possibly more than flirting, this is really. really not the place for it, and it never has been. Be warned that we will be being rather harsh about this rule, as there is no excuse for breaking it. I do not want to see any attempts at innuendo for the next while, while this calms down, and I do not want to see any "mature flirting" on the forum again in any shape or form.

If you have any questions or are looking for clarification, please feel free to PM me.

It has been brought to my attention that I am being too relaxed whereby off topic posts are concerned. Up until now I have simply been deleting them and not warning/infracting players for derailing threads. That was a mistake on my part and from now on I shall be warning and infracting as is appropriate.

As you may or may not have noticed, I've been away for the last 5 days due to both starting uni and suffering with man flu. For some time now, I've prided myself on the fact that in my humble opinion, I had one of the best worlds around. I honestly believed that I could leave you all for five days without having to return to any major problems. Instead I've spent the last 3 hours reading post after post of insults and bickering.

As I am sure you have worked out by now, it's fair to say that I'm quite disappointed in you all. I realise that due to the nature of this game and the nature of those that play it, we can't like everybody but that doesn't make it acceptable to post hurtful or antagonizing comments towards another person.

To put it simply, I expect things to get better. If you can't get along for your own sake, then please, try to improve your posting for me. I don't like giving out infractions just as much as you don't like receiving them.

Apologies for the recent lack of moderation. The other night, I was washing up and I happened to waddle over to my laptop and rested my right elbow just next to the mouse pad. Lappy screamed and threw the blue screen of death my way. Ever since, she's been taking several minutes to process each request. Safe to say, moderation/playing at home is completely out of the question unless I use my brothers laptop.

I am now going to start moderating at uni as it's unfair on my fellow mods to keep relying on them. I do ask however, that you start to use the report function more often so as to make my life easier.

Ohai.

It has come to my attention that there was a rather large argument that I thought had stopped but was continued in another thread after my previous warning and locking of the topic in question. There was a lot of rulebreaking and insults thrown around on both sides, and I apologise that noone was on to deal with it. Because it stopped (essentially) about a week ago, I'm not going to go back and infract for everything that was said, because there are a number of things wrong with that sort of moderation. Instead, consider this a general warning: Should I see anyone referring to someone else as scum, making rl related insults about their lives, their habits or their intelligence, or any of those things which you clearly know aren't allowed by virtue of the fact that both sides were reporting the other for things they were saying themselves, offending users will receive straight infractions. Continuing after the first infraction will result in heavier punishments.

Please note that "he started it first" is not an excuse. If someone is being offensive, report it, and ignore it. Fighting fire with fire will only get you burned.

As always, feel free to PM me with questions.

Due to the nature of recent events, anybody found using offensive or sexual nicknames (common or not) shall be punished.

Further to my request in the "Laziest player" thread, We are now bringing in a blanket ban on the use of alias accounts to demean or insult other players. Users found to be breaking this rule will receive a short ban.

Just a casual reminder that quoting an offensive post is an infractable offence.

For some time now, I have been rather lenient whereby infracting for minor insults is concerned. Due to the recent spate of more aggressive posts from multiple users however, I am going to start enforcing the letter of the law. This means that insults like "idiot" and anything else that does not strictly refer to someone actions ingame will be punished with warnings and infractions.

Below are two posts, one is acceptable and the other, isn't.

Acceptable Post:
That move was idiotic

- fine, as it is questioning the wisdom of an action.

Unacceptable Post:
You are an idiot for doing that
- not fine: it may roughly translate to the same thing, but the implication is that the user acted that way because he/she is an idiot, rather than the action itself being stupid.

Any questions, PM me :)
