The Seven Stages of Grief - "When being nobled" edition
Everyone must sooner or later deal with the concept of villages being nobled. Some take it better than others, especially if you're the one doing the nobling. While the following may apply to you, one of the key components in understanding your targets and helping them ease through the difficult and emotional process of loss is to understand what they are going through. Once you understand, you'll be able to better help them cope with what is no doubt a stressful and taxing time for them.
With that, I present to you, from countless hours of research (laughing at the mails people send to me or forward onto me in game) a comprehensive guide to the seven stages of grief that your target will be experiencing as he watches the countdown to when he loses his village.
All of these are pulled from actual ingame emails I have received or that others have forwarded to me.
Stage One: Shock and Disbelief
The first stage is quite a harrowing experience. Your target will be farming away, building his village, and perhaps sharing in a joke or two upon the forum, happy they have found an online version of SimCity. Much like the US before Pearl Harbor, war is just a distant tale in faraway lands.
Suddenly, all that changes when they see the attack symbol. They are, as the stage suggests, filled with shock and disbelief. Afterall, they never attacked anyone! They never farmed anything that wasn't touching their main village, and cannot believe they are being nobled! Examples:
Stage Two: Denial
Once your target gets over the first stage, he moves into Denial. This is characterized by not wanting to believe that he IS being nobled. The incomings are fakes. After all, don't you see his point count? How can the likes of YOU possibly stand against his 7k point village with it's all powerful 1500 swords and 60 HC? Your target either goes into denial about the attack being a real one...
Moving past denial, your target will realize he is in fact getting cleared and nobled. At this point, he still believes he can salvage the situation and then try to bargain with you. This can take on several levels...
Trying to appeal to your humanity...
Stage Four: Guilt
When bargaining doesn't work, then your opponent starts to come to terms with his increasingly hopeless situation. While asking himself what he did to deserve this, he looks back on all his previous transgressions within the game.
Stage Five: Anger
More often than not, the feelings of guilt will morph into feelings of anger when they believe they did nothing wrong, certainly nothing that could justify an attack! Your target will become very unstable, and will say anything and everything that comes to their mind. They may insult you, either in the game or personally, or brag about their skills on other worlds (none of which has any bearing on the current world) and be indignant that you don't know who they are.
Stage Six: Depression
Anger burns itself up rather quickly for some, or it can last as long as the train takes (depending on how drunk your victim gets) but will ultimately move on to depression as they realize nothing can stop the outcome.
Stage Seven: Acceptance and Hope
Your victim will finally come to accept that their village will soon have a new aristocracy, and in doing so, may look towards the future.

dude why are you attacking me!? i spent a month working on this village and now you attack me for no reason, our tribes arent even at war
Why the hell are you attacking me
PLZ DONT ATTACK, I DONT WANT TO LOSE MY VILLAG 2 U
i never even attacked you, why do you have to come and take my hard work
Stage Two: Denial
Once your target gets over the first stage, he moves into Denial. This is characterized by not wanting to believe that he IS being nobled. The incomings are fakes. After all, don't you see his point count? How can the likes of YOU possibly stand against his 7k point village with it's all powerful 1500 swords and 60 HC? lol there's no way those are nobles, those are fakes, enjoy dying!
You know that my troops will win, 100%.
Or they are in denial of their odds of survival...You're a dumbass, your tribe is sending me fakes that land for the next two days, what are you trying to do, scare me? Like you'd actually noble someone twenty hours away...learn how to play the game, noob.
u dont know what i have in my other villages u only scout 1 of 3 i got alot more troops than u saw, u got a suprise comin and all ur troops will die i promise u
Stage Three: BargainingLOL, yeah right...your attack lands in 20 hours, you'll be surprised at how much defense I'll be able to churn out with my level 25 barracks before then
Moving past denial, your target will realize he is in fact getting cleared and nobled. At this point, he still believes he can salvage the situation and then try to bargain with you. This can take on several levels...
Trying to appeal to your humanity...
Offering you friendship...Hey man, not cool. I'm just doing my thing and I'm leaving you alone. Can't you just leave me alone and we can build our cities together?
Appealing to your sense of sportsmanship...hey we should team up we could totally pwn everyone around us
Evoking pity and attempting to bribe you...Wouldn't you rather wait until I got bigger so you'd have a better fight on your hands?
Or perhaps they just skip that altogether. They may try to bargain with your tribe leader..this is my first time playing plz stop i can pay u tribute
im not sure you rememember me, but im from S.A.S and we have no war with eachoters. stil did VinceFromShamwow with some help from TheDoctorRockzo take my 9000 thousand point village. i worked hard for this for over an month. and how can we act like this when not even close to wars. i know you cannot give my town back. but this is so wrong. i know the comunity manager block all emails from him. i will talk to them tom. i also lost all my thousand of troops. he insulted me in any possible way with changing his towns names. this is an war game, not an war rape.. i hope you can fix this.
Stage Four: Guilt
When bargaining doesn't work, then your opponent starts to come to terms with his increasingly hopeless situation. While asking himself what he did to deserve this, he looks back on all his previous transgressions within the game.
I guess I shouldn't have attacked your buddy, I had no clue you guys would attack me this bad
Sorry, I shouldn't have nobled your farm...please stop attacking me
Stage Five: Anger
More often than not, the feelings of guilt will morph into feelings of anger when they believe they did nothing wrong, certainly nothing that could justify an attack! Your target will become very unstable, and will say anything and everything that comes to their mind. They may insult you, either in the game or personally, or brag about their skills on other worlds (none of which has any bearing on the current world) and be indignant that you don't know who they are.
LOL YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR FRIEND TEAM UP ON ME...YOU NEVER FIGHT 1 ON 1...THATS OK BECAUSE I OWN SEVERAL COMPANIES AND MAKE MORE MONEY IN A MONTH BUILDING PORN SITES THAN YOU DO IN A WHOLE YEAR. AND DON'T TELL ME ABOUT YOUR TROOP NUMBERS, ITS NOT LIKE I BRAG ABOUT HOW MUCH I CAN BENCHPRESS
I DEMAND you cease attacks on me right now. You WILL start a war and I promise you that you'll get rimmed so fast by us your head will spin.
YOU'RE NOTHING BUT A COWARD, YOU DESERVE TO GET KICKED OUT OF YOUR TRIBE AND I HOPE YOU GET A PERMANANT BAN
i hate u more than i have ever hated anyone
Way to go, big man. Do you have any idea how long I've been playing this game? Look me up on TWstats.net. I've been in the top ten in seven different worlds I've played. This is the only world you play and it looks like you've never played anywhere else. You have no idea who you're messing with, but you will soon enough.
why dont u be a real man and fight me on w34 insted of 41 but you wont cuz ur a coward who cant fight for real...
Stage Six: Depression
Anger burns itself up rather quickly for some, or it can last as long as the train takes (depending on how drunk your victim gets) but will ultimately move on to depression as they realize nothing can stop the outcome.
man i worked so hard on that village for you to just come and take it away from me...i spent over a month building it up...
Dude, come on...this is my last village in the Core and now I'm going to be sent to the rim? Bummer...
I can't believe I thought I could trust you...I was leaving you alone...
i woudnt be sayin anything if we r at war but we arnt this isnt war, this is rape, you are a WAR RAPIST
Stage Seven: Acceptance and Hope
Your victim will finally come to accept that their village will soon have a new aristocracy, and in doing so, may look towards the future.
