Finish The Fight
Better work from both sides, but Shadow’s heavy total is crushing their opponents

SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 182
Side 2: 9
Difference: 173

chart

Well, if that’s not a scoreline to make you sit up in your armchair, I don’t know what is. 182 has got to be a record for Shadow against a single opponent, but 9 conquers is certainly a passing reminder that SBM might yet be capable of something. Unfortunately, 9 doesn’t vindicate 182, but it’s a performance from that side that stands above recent weeks.

For Shadow’s part, it really is quite a worthy total and far beyond anything we have seen for a long, long time. Can we say that Shadow has executed a sublime strategy and decimated SBM? No we cannot. We can however say that they have found the vulnerable SBM targets and have crushed them utterly. In many ways, that’s the modus operandi in any war; one must find the weaknesses of the enemy and exploit them. Certainly it does flatter Shadow, but it does also mean that SBM have slumped in points over the week and certain members have fallen to the contagion of inactivity.

Indeed, one can surmise from the scoreline that vulnerable targets are plentiful for Shadow, but that SBM should not underestimate themselves, or perhaps overestimate Shadow; the prevalence of retakes shows that support troops travel at the same speed for Shadow members. Yet, with the gap widening between Shadow and SBM, such actions are mere thorns and hardly the dense thicket of resistance that is required.

For all my botanical analogies, it’s hats off to Shadow and a tip of the cap to those on SBM who’ll still give the war a chance. As for the rest, they just make SBM look bad if this week’s stats are anything to go by. Keep your eyes on the showing for next week.

Right, firstly a huge apology to everyone from my blatant stupidity. No, it wasn’t necessary to printscreen stuff, put it in ‘Paint’, upload etc How about I just take the images from the self-updating maps? Yeah I know…Occam’s razor.

Elsewhere, I have added the ennoble winners and losers to feature some new folks on there, though it’s Dec this week. I felt that some players have exceptional weeks and that they should be commemorated; the loser shows you where many conquers have been going.

Other than that, I don’t have a huge amount to say on Shadow/SBM. I think I end up repeating myself pretty quickly. Then again, what else is there?

Super Brat - Interview

From Worse To Bad
It's an improvement, I'll give you that

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 131
Side 2: 9
Difference: 122

chart

When it is the case that things go from terrible to slightly better, one can receive it either positively, or negatively. If we’re honest, it’s better than last week, but it’s still atrocious for SBM. 9 conquers lacks any real weight once your opponents are getting over 100 against you, and indeed most of that kudos is owed to Rainbowbadger, who accounts for 7 out of those 9.

Whilst Shadow coasts over the 16,000 village mark, SBM struggles to remain about 3,000 when once the same problem emerged with staying above 4,000 villages. It seems this is due to a more rigorous removal of inactive players, perhaps in a bid to keep the tribe cleaner or more cynically, to keep the stats more reasonable.

It did occur to me that SBM can most likely purport to be larger than all of the other tribes (except Shadow) put together. When that is the case, the rest of the world really must have any hopes of a Shadow demise pinned squarely upon SBM. If that is the case, then they may be weary by now.

When one sees the re-emergence of Nstlk* and the formation of NOS2, one has to question the state of affairs, or indeed rub one’s eyes. We see Shadow approaching a domination of 75% of the world’s points, and a similar percentage of its villages, and we wonder what is to become of the world. Its opponents crack, but it shows little sign of relenting.

In Other News…

  • There seems to be a massive influx of players this week; whether they will be here to stay, I don’t know.

Interview

Super Brat has very kindly agreed to do some short interviews to keep you folks amused and check up on the influential figures of the world.

Super Brat
Ephette

1} Shadow has been ranked 1 for about 1.5 years now. Was this challenging for you?

Getting to number one isn't always the main challenge, sometimes the bigger challenge is keeping that position. This is something our tribe as a unit achieved with great success.

2} As a former W27 player, I know that Shadow did not have an enemy tribe of more than half of their size since Nstlk; do you find the other tribes below Shadow to be a threat?

Current tribes ? No.

3} Shadow now has about 70%+ dominance over the world; do you believe when Shadow has 100%, the world will end or that the admins will decrease the tribe limit?

I hope the admins will not prolong the world simply for the sake of having it here. Perhaps if by that stage no-one is using premium, then it will not be in their financial interests to keep it open.

When do you suppose Shadow will have the 100%

By the end of the year would be a good if fairly optimistic goal.

5} I was told by Zarin that your tribe has had a lot of activity even until today. What has helped you get them to stay active when they have no challenge at all?

Folks are here playing this game because they want to be here. We have, like every other tribe on every other server, had people who, due to real life constraints, have had to either cut back on, or totally finish with, their TW playtime. I would also like to stress that it’s inaccurate to say there has been no challenge. There are still warriors out there who will fight till their last village is taken, and we take off our hats to those who play the game for what it is.

6} How do you feel about the fact that your tribe has 35(?) members in the top 40, and indeed the top 20 being only Shadow members?

37 out of the top 40 :) Looks like we got some work to do to get those other 3 non-Shadowees moved out :p

7} The last time I checked stats for every world (yes I am a no-lifer :p) DNY (W12) was the only other tribe to succeed something like that. Do you see this as a another big achievement such as new milestone?

There will always be criticism directed at any tribe who holds a huge dominance in any world. What we have done will go down in the history books; (Zarin's going to be writing them). I'm sure we as a tribe will look back on what we have achieved and will be very proud of it.

8} When did you start TW?

When dinosaurs roamed the earth, well ok, more like maybe 4 years ago.

9} How did you do on your 1st world?

I started W2 about 2 months before it closed, I was surrounded by allies / naps, so I didn't play the world very long as there was no place for expansion.

10} What other world(s) were you a leader on?

World 12

11} Do you play any other worlds? (this is for those who want revenge on another world :p)

No, I don't play any other worlds, and don't have any plans to join any others at the moment.

12} Why did you join W27?

The tribal lock appealed to me; it was a world where you couldn't depend on your mates in your pre-made tribe, but had to rely on your own abilities, and to see if one is good enough to get others to follow an unknown potential leader.

13} What’s your favorite color?

Pink

14} What’s your favorite movie/series?

I loved the new Sherlock Holmes film, saw it 3 times at the cinema. Favourite ‘girly’ film is Sense and Sensibility - I always cry at the end.

15} What’s your favorite number?

I Don't have one.

16} Who do you want to win the world cup?

England

You have an interview which might make up for the lack of things to say. With regards to last week's maps, I am going to have to withdraw my euphoria as having pasted the link to the self-updating maps, my maps did update as well as I had feared they might. Fortunately, I took shots of them, but the quality is not as nice - you win some, you lose some methinks.

Resistance Sold Separately
Another torrid week for SBM

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 101
Side 2: 4
Difference: 97

chart

A regression on both sides it seems, but more significantly for SBM who move from 9 to 4 instead of 131 to 101. It’s another week in which Shadow are far ahead, but both sides seem to look more apathetic about the entire affair. Can I say that either side looks to have made a different impression this week? Probably not.

The heavy toll on SBM must surely be beginning to surface, but the ostensible lack of resistance might also be responsible for a waning Shadow interest in the conflict. Perhaps that is due to a lack of targets, or even a more spirited resistance from SBM, but the former is the more likely on the evidence of previous weeks.

Can I say anything different or profound this week? Nope, so I am going to be brief and go back to the football.

The Sound Of Inevitability
SBM now looking to be firmly in decline

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 130
Side 2: 1
Difference: 129

chart

*sigh* It’s that time of the week again when I try to contrive something from the stats of the day when the real story blares clearly at you. The scoreline gives nothing beyond hearty congratulations to Shadow who continue to focus on removing SBM and have managed to pull them firmly below the 3000 villages mark.

Can I find anything for SBM? Well, justme4 takes the most ennoblements, but 24 barbs is nothing to shout about and a disappointment from one of the few players who if large enough to have any ability to take on Shadow. Couple that with the fact that maxmatter lost more and it starts really to detract from any sort of victory.

It did strike me this week that Shadow is entering the last line of SBM defence. Beyond the line of K23, 24, 25, 26 there is very little of SBM left. Yet with K23 almost in Shadow hands, and many SBM players over there crumbling under increasing Shadow pressure, it seems likely that the continent will fall soon enough and SBM will be driven out, and Shadow will finds its way to the Northern rim.

Once SBM falls in one area, the sweep across will surely be forthcoming, and beyond that, there is little left for anyone else. I suppose it will be Shadow vs. Dawn stats, or BIP or whatever. And where will it go then? The long cleaning operation will begin and old friends will no doubt rejoin again, just to fight it out for as long as possible.

In Other News…

  • Something about a new Nstlk* declaring upon us. It’s a new thread at least, that’s probably worthy of note.

Surprising Weekly Outcomes Sold Separately
As predictable as ever in the Shadow-SBM conflict

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 104
Side 2: 4
Difference: 100

chart

Unsurprisingly, I am reporting on a week like many others for Shadow and SBM. Whilst SBM slide slowly down the rankings, Shadow likewise attends to the war with a slowly dampening enthusiasm. It’s been a quiet week for both, with each tribe putting in one of their lowest totals for overall conquers.

Shadow does however seem to be firmly moving into the last set of continents, and SBM resistance would appear to be waning with only small pockets presenting problems for the Shadow war machine. It would seem that there is merely one major push required from Shadow and SBM should truly begin to crumble, with the only question being on what reserves Shadow has left. It is a time when activity will count for a great deal, and with the USA, England and Australia all out of the World Cup, there’s probably no excuse.

In Other News…

  • Shadow takes control of K23, a key first victory for them in the last phase of the war.

  • gerick6 surpasses the 8 million points mark.

The Glorious Four And No More
SBM manages a fitting 4 conquers, but no more

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 99
Side 2: 4
Difference: 95

chart

There is a part of me that wants to remark that we have been here before. Yes, July 4th comes around every year, but that’s not to what I was referring; for I speak of SBM suffering yet another torrid week at the hands of Shadow. Maybe it’s déjà vu from seeing me trying to work in some sort of theme however tenuously. Whatever the case, the score is better than it was, but I get so weary of saying that only to have to say the reverse somewhere along the line.

I mean, look at the numbers. Someone in SBM is making an effort and that is champion; that takes a great deal of courage and persistence to want to hold out and still fight against these odds. If the rest could manage that, there would be a proper war here and I’d have something a little meatier to talk about.

As it is, most players merely buckle under the pressure and give up, allowing Shadow to inflate the scoreboard with their conquers. This is turn must surely be disheartening and so the cycle continues. There are some very scarce positives for SBM, or at least an example to follow while Shadow has the luxury of carrying on as it has been doing for the foreseeable future.

Thoughts for the Week
A few words on the vicissitudes of the week and TW in general

I’d like to thank Sweeney for putting something together this week and liberating you from my ramblings:

The Social Aspect of Tribal Wars

I am going to write about the social aspect of tribal wars. But first off, I cannot take credit for the idea since BrobFellshank came up with it.
Anyhow, I shall start off with the importance of socialising early game. Obviously, the goal in the start-up stage is to survive it. And so it is crucial to develop a strong relationship with those around you, be it by befriending them or offering them resources / troops etc. Without realising it, we already have this social network around us. This of coarse tends to develop as the game progresses.

As you play on world to world you begin to add to your social network & make it a huge strong base of friends & foes.

And here you are reading this, you are probably chatting with friends as you read it. Let me ask you, what do you think the social aspect does to the game? For you, how much does it improve/expand the game?

Seeing as I only wrote this last night, I was unable to ask many players from W27, but I asked other greats from other worlds:

BrobFellshank -> There several ways the social aspect affects the game. I feel the social aspect has alot of good benefits and bad as well. Some of the good aspects are the ability to make friends, networking, and even learn about the world. LOL. Some of the bad things are stresses on real lives, bad people, and disagreements. I believe the benefits outweigh the negatives by far.

The social aspect of the game can really enhance the game play. It allows you to communicate your ideals to complete game goals you have set. You meet and learn to respect other players who have common goals set forth. This creates a network of players who are willing to help out their friends to no end.

It can also be a negative on real lives. The more one puts into a game, the less they put in real life. It is a delicate balance which is very hard to maintain.

For me the social aspect of the game is nothing but a benefit. I enjoy the company of many of the players I have learned to know on a personal level. I am sure the people who have me in their circles have as much respect for me as I have for them.

Drowned Dog (#1 player & duke of #1 tribe on W31) -> Probably wouldn’t have continued playing after 2 villages if nobody had said hi to me. And now you get the opportunity to meet new people by being loved, and asked to join premades ;)
And being duke of the largest tribe, and being the largest player I get to take the piss out of everyone, and what are they going to do about it? :O

Bandit Of The West (Duchess of #1 tribe on W29) -> The game in itself is really boring. The interaction with people of all cultures and places is what makes it unique. If it were not for the people that play the accounts, this game would have no future. So yeah, the interaction you get with other ppl is what this game is all about. :)

Soccergiant -> The social part of this game is one of the biggest reasons I play, especially this world. I have meet a lot of great people, from around the world that I would never get the chance to meet. I have played other worlds and the people seem to keep to themselves far more. Even people in other tribes on W27 seem to be ready to talk about all types of topics. It is also nice to get the perspective of others in different countries about football, politics, and general life situations. I believe that this game would not be as alluring if the social part of the game were not here.

Zarin -> To my mind, the social aspect adds a great deal to this game. Without any aspect of interaction between players this game would be ludicrously dull and would not be viable as a business.

If we take the social aspect to be the communications between players that are beyond the business of the game and extend into ‘chit-chat’, then from what I have observed in watching tribes grow, I say that it is vitally important, simply because these relationships are what can be called upon in times of distress and it is these relationships that form the core of a tribe’s strength. There must be a compassion amongst members to bring about any form of cohesive response to threats; we are far more likely to help those whom we value as friends.

However, it is far more than that. Social interaction between players keeps the game fresh, and the myriad of personalities present in any tribe will assuredly make for a vibrant community. It is a case of the social factor distracting players from the dull machinations of the game itself and making the entire environment feel more friendly and desirable. Making good friends in a tribe can often retain a player far longer than their enjoyment of the game and in a wider perspective, the friendships in an arena like this are liberated from the petty superficial judgements of the real world. Each player is exposed to a vast variety of personalities, nationalities, cultures and beliefs were they are far freer from judgement or inhibition; people are far more themselves and with that, the social aspect can be far more fulfilling here to many people than in real life.

I speak from my own experience when I say that relationships and interactions with people reach far more profoundly into our lives than we might expect. The game can become a conduit in many ways, to facilitate far grander schemes and to present opportunities that are down the game. I have met a lot of great people here, and I have had a lot of experiences that have changed me as a person from everyone that I have met. And indeed, I have seen real lives changed so much by meetings on this game. Now, how much of that is individual to this game is no doubt small, but if I had not played Tribal Wars without finding these things in my path, I do not think that I would still be here.

Sometimes I can say that people have talked about places or events and that this has stuck with me to the extent that the conversation is brought into my mind when the same thing surfaces in real life. To me it is fascinating to receive such a breadth of perspective on life from so many ages and backgrounds; watching the major news stories being commented upon from different sides is always so very intriguing because it reveals other viewpoints on events that one might not have considered. If you hang around long enough, you watch people grow with you and lives change; you hear about the good times and the bad and people whom you have never met share their lives with you…isn’t that something remarkable?

A long time ago, the game itself was fun, but I think it can become repetitive rather quickly. It is a case of experiencing it with those around you that makes each day different to the last. If you throw yourself into the social aspect, the entire experience of the game feels like something more than a waste of time to put it honestly; if I looked back without knowledge of the social impacts to me, I would probably count my time here as wasted. It is because we share our time and experiences with those around us that we are gratified by a much fuller experience.

With it, the game is far more open and far more interesting. It is the human factor that is responsible for the uncertainty in this game, for the ingenuity. Playing the game together with others, experiencing its trials and tribulations together is a more intimate experience than it appears and the social manifestation of that is quite significant. Admittedly, you could run an operation like robots, but where would the fun really be? Far better it is to enjoy it with people; sure you may not be perfect, but who doesn’t like to hear a good excuse for why someone was late sending their attacks, or sent nukes to villages that you claimed? Who doesn’t like to chide tribemates who are falling behind on the operational scoreboard, or seeing despair change to hope when you manage to snipe a train heading to a neighbour’s village?

Think of it like a doughnut. The whole village-taking, point-amassing zeitgeist is the outer doughy layer. However, that’s a little dull and whilst it may start out well, it soon grows tiresome. The social interactions are like the filling; some days its jam, some days its custard, some days its chocolate and some days its one of those trial flavours or something fruity if you picked up the wrong pack in a rush. The point is that the inside part is what makes a doughnut the fulfilling experience that it is. And then you get the ring ones with the icing; I don’t know how they fit in but they are good too.

So in a roundabout kind of way, socialising is the warm centre of this game. And for me, the people I meet in here are the warm centre of my gaming experience. It just raises the game to another level which is the one that keeps so many people interested. We come for the gameplay and end up staying for the people; that’s testament to the important of the social aspect.

Cerizar -> Oh it definitely improves things a lot, you get to know your mates TW ethics and by working together you can achieve a lot more. For example when taking on the bigger players, if two or three of you co ordinate together, the odds are in your favour.

DarkDmize -> I think the game depends on the social aspect...being able to communicate is crucial to effective gameplay. With many tribes also using Skype or other messaging programs, collaboration and cooperation is extended exponentially.

And well, I guess I’ll have to give my thoughts too. To be honest, I don’t find the game all that interesting. It is obviously the social aspect that I most enjoy (that & kicking Shadow’s a$$ :p ) . I think that if there was no social aspect then I’d have quit TW before I got my second village. I play now in hope to expand my network of friends, and foes ;)

Another thing to note, if there were never a social aspect, would the weekly be here? I think not.

I hoped you enjoyed my ranting :D

Consider it done, it might look like quite a good week for SBM but most of those were against me, so its not as though they’ve had to work for them is it.

Take A Wild Guess
Surprisingly enough, Shadow has overcome SBM yet again

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 146
Side 2: 6
Difference: 140

chart

It was pointed out to me shortly before I came to write this that SBM has in fact earned a quite spurious accolade. Consultation of their TWStats page reveals that they have in fact lost more villages that they have gained as a tribe: (+1570 vs. -1597). I suppose that you have to make of that what you wish but it can by no means be a positive element, not when the tribe dips below 20 million points too.

The week itself is a rough one for SBM too; conquers have ramped up in the week, most likely due to the two players shown below in the ‘Ennoblements’ section. And whilst they lost a considerable number to Shadow, they managed few both in return and overall.

I thought I might put it in context and look to where the other half of Shadow’s conquers have gone; Shadow vs. Dawn threw up 34-3 and Shadow vs. SKULL threw up 9-0; other it seems are spread far and wide among the many reds of the map. It’s a good week in the war, even if totals under 300 aren’t going to blow up any skirts for Shadow. Enemy players that might once have seemed to be thorns are falling, and the task falling to those left grows greater still.

Anyway, congratulations to mikestuntz for being the top nobler for the second week running, and for ensuring that Rainbowbadger has the dubious honour of being the most nobled as it were.

Work begins next week on the rather heady task of writing down some more of the world’s history, though thankfully I do at least have the Weekly to guide me on the who’s who at the time. Oh, and it means you’ll get a healthy dose of nostalgia next week too.

And finally we have an ongoing discussion on the closure of the world, please do not be afraid to get involved in it and throw up some discussion.

Another Ditch In The Road
SBM struggle on

Shadow vs. SBM

Side 1: 143
Side 2: 1
Difference: 142

chart

In week where the closure of the world is announced, and another world moves into its final stage, Shadow must surely be wondering whether they too might be following the same path. Certainly an excellent week has ensued here with a far healthier total for conquers, and an exemplary total against SBM.

SBM, for its part, really seems to be struggling. They managed only 47 conquers in the week, hardly a just total for them, even if it is probably better than Shadow if we consider a ratio of points to conquers for the tribe. The bottom line is that 47 is far short of their losses to Shadow and they are perhaps spared utter humiliation by managing one conquer against Shadow. The tribe itself does seem to be in a freefall, and little is being done to prevent it.

It is not even the case that the medium sized or smaller players are the ones being targeted, but the heaviest conquers seem to be falling against top ten players in SBM. Rainbowbadger takes a third successive week at the top of the individual losses scoreboard; helldad90 and Dreadknock take fourth and fifth respectively.

They are spared much humiliation on that board by a terrible week for Dawn; two of their top three players have suffered terribly in the week as the hammer starts to fall on them too. 82-2 was the outcome there this week.

There’s little positive to say for those against Shadow, when world closure looms, and the victory of enemies is a genuine possibility for them. For Shadow, a healthier points total and the example of DNY must surely be incredibly positive moments as we move into the summer.

It will no doubt be interesting to see how the world responds now that many younger players find themselves with a greater amount of free time. Hopefully it will bring greater activity through August which is likely to be a pivotal month with regards to the fate of SBM.

In Other News

  • The closure of the world is scheduled for August 5th.

  • DNY are poised to win W12.

Just When You Thought It Couldn’t Get Any Worse…
It most certainly did

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 152
Side 2: 0
Difference: 152

chart

I’d really like to be able to find something positive for SBM to go on, I genuinely would. There have been flashes of some sort of vigour and resistance in the past month, in places, but it’s sad when weeks like this occur and SBM is embarrassed. 152-0 isn’t the sort of score anyone wants to be on the receiving end of, and if this were a sports game, the referee probably would have finished it early to be sporting. Unfortunately, such things don’t happen in war and the villages have been falling left, right and centre.

It’s good news for Shadow of course, who steamroller on with their conquest of the world which looks more plausible with each day they work for it. An impressive variety in the players taking villages for them seems to hint at a solid activity, probably the toughest challenge for them.

The bad news is all there is for SBM; a disappointing 35 total conquers surely means that this group are well and truly fading. In times gone by, they could cream off the good players and start afresh, but such a thing does not look plausible any longer. The inclusion of Dawn members and players from lower down is conceivable, but it’s only likely to drag this out further. Rainbowbadger takes yet another week as the noble loser; hopefully someone will be gentlemanly and deprive her of that dubious accolade next week. It does seem that Dawn could be just as likely to have someone up there too with the way that things are shaping up.

In fact, having been perusing the Weekly in weeks gone by, I thought I might check on the forever stats, to see how the numbers look. I think when you put it like this, it tells the whole story:

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 1,848
Side 2: 77
Difference: 1,771

chart

I was immensely surprised by those figures, but it is not perhaps so surprising when you consider how many weeks I reported SBM on <10 or even <5 conquers and Shadow with 100-150. The story of SBM is one that most involved will quickly want to forget and is a far cry for some of those who remember [IRON]’s hard work.

What more is there to say?

In Other News

  • It’s the last week for players to join; the Weekly Countdown thread might actually function properly now.

  • Shadow moves to dominate K51 and more importantly, K24, what used to be a strong SBM area. It looks to be the work of the loss of SBM players and relentless gains by Shadow. They now hold 36/44 continents with 5 100% controlled.

I think that’s me done for this week. I am going to say that the history itself I’ll keep updating until we reach the next Nov.13, but that I may everything I have done on the first year (read: updated my anniversary thread) and post that up for people to read. A lot of that will depend on my time to tidy it all up and make it nice and readable for you.

I am also going to say that anyone who has anything to submit for it should make themselves known on the forum, or else mail me either through the forum or in game. Thank you to all those who have already done so.

Anyways, looks like it’s cabin fever from now on with the world about to close.

Ooh, double figures?!

Shadow vs. SBM

Total conquers against opposite side:

Side 1: 70

Well it is one of those weeks that surprises me. Indeed, ideas of it being ‘merely’ 70-0 might surprise a first time reader, but it is certainly welcome this week to SBM in light of some former ones. In fact, Dawn suffered more heavily at 81-2, but at least they got some conquers it seems. Perhaps Shadow are changing their tack.

Certainly it is not a welcome sight to either of Shadow’s closest opponents. Halving the conquers might have been welcome to SBM if they had anything to show for it, but they continue to decline. Dawn likewise have lost a considerable number of points in recent days due to some players moving to SBM, but it is a move that has benefited neither party. Certainly this author wonders whether he should comment on both sets of stats in the weeks to come.

Is there anything positive for the fight against Shadow? Well they have been slightly quieter this week, but it seems to be the case that certain players will have good weeks and then defer to others. This week winvarwen has put up a laudable 46 conquers which is probably the best we have ever had in a week and no prizes for guessing where most of them came from. It definitely spares Rainbowbadger another week up there.

What more can we say? With the world now close, the rim can grow no further and we shall surely see those continent dominance figures greatly assisted. In most places, the most extreme Shadow players can actually see the edge of the world, and only beginner protection will save many now. The North continues to remain the bastion of resistance to Shadow with K26 being the one to watch. Certainly it will be interesting to watch those figures change as time wears on.

I think that wraps the week up. I actually fancied that there might be the possibility for an interview next week, but I am keeping quiet on that. There’s also an increasing amount of forum activity – go figure on that one folks. I'll also start putting up some Dawn stats for you since there are plenty of conquers (and spurious commentary) waiting to be shown.

Anyways, stay happy and please do read the history to vindicate the amount of time I spent on it.

My last act for today will be to predict Arsenal as Premiership champions for this season ;)

The question this week must centre on the change of direction in Shadow’s nobling; why is Dawn the major target this week rather than SBM? Indeed, does this mean that Shadow have disregarded SBM as a major target and that Dawn are the priority choice, or is it simply that more players have access to Dawn villages to noble, rather than the limited SBM front?

Certainly SBM might well be a little more pleased with this week’s showing, even if 62 won’t win prizes. They did at least manage a conquer against Shadow, but this author supposes that we are scraping the barrel a little. 62-1 still leaves SBM in a lowly position and below 2,000 villages. The question of why they have not found themselves the top of Shadow's priority list can probably best be answered by a brief perusal of the map. While SBM might maintain a significant frontline with Shadow, many of their isolated players have now been cleared up, while Dawn are suffering from the problem of dispersed members and simply finding too many of their villages within striking range of Shadow. Perhaps also it seems that some of the main belligerents against SBM from Shadow have been much quieter during the week, so SBM could well expect a fresh assault in the days to come.

So what of Dawn? Unfortunately for them, after losing two larger players to SBM in early August, they now find themselves taking something of the brunt of the Shadow assault. Indeed, a quick review of their last 20 conquers reveals 18 losses; it paints a dire picture for Dawn. Their largest player looks to be a target in the weeks to come, and their dispersed position makes it difficult for members to offer help to each other.

All in all, it’s not looking good for SBM or Dawn, and as Shadow’s supposed main opponents, there is little positive that can be taken. Whilst SBM might be relieved, the war conquers are simply being found elsewhere. As for Shadow, 307 is a good haul for the week and activity looks reasonably solid all over. The week also bore auspicious fruit with regards to player attrition, and the number of players remaining moves back close to the 2,000 mark.

In Other News

  • Shadow now holds 7 continents at 100% dominance.

  • The new ‘Awards’ system is released; there’s not a lot to be said for it at the moment and few surprises on the winners.

It’s been another week of tribe upheaval. SBM finds itself with new members, and SKULL moves into third with the recruitment of Gaxxxx, though he seems to be attracting the enmity of Shadow at the moment. Dawn for their part have remained largely static. As it stands, I am moving SKULL into the stats to have a little look at the wars on all fronts.

It’s the usual sort of story against SBM. Their solitary conquer does them few favours, even if 63 is a more meagre showing from Shadow. Recent dominance in K35 from Shadow is another feather in their cap, and another blow to SBM. Worrying for them may also be the apparent inactivity of their largest player – justme4. Maybe their new recruits will pull some weight?

SKULL finds itself part of a poor first showing, largely thanks to taking in Gaxxx who looks to be a Shadow target. He joins justme4 and Joe the Elder who are all finding themselves on the chopping block. They seem to have a fair few new recruits, and Nomad seems to have collapse as a tribe, so they probably have a few of those. Like Dawn they face the problem of being so thinly spread around the rim and noting impressive seems to be forthcoming. Their profile probably says it all.

Dawn lead the conquers against Shadow after a couple of poor weeks. It is encouraging to see some sort of fight being mustered. However, it’s probably not going to come to much these days, even if they may take pleasure in annoying certain Shadow members.

Shadow themselves seem to have had a quiet week. At least the player number dropping below 1500 is encouraging and their continent dominance looks more solid than ever. I suppose the main enemy now is inactivity, but things look generally solid on that side of things. It’s very much up to the players.

In Other News

  • Shadow takes control of K35.

  • The number of players on the world drops below 1500.

I can’t really put a date on the time it was Shadow vs. The World, possibly after it took in its last few recruits from *TKP* and shut itself out from the world. Anyway, with Shadow making conquers against all the other top 5 tribes, why miss out on an excellent opportunity to find lots of writing fodder?

As we start at the top of the list, SBM is still the firm favourite for conquers. Despite waning attention, after Shadow briefly decided to blitz Dawn for a little while, conquers are back up. There are slithers of resistance, but it’s worrying when SBM took more from itself than Shadow. Positives are few, though I suppose recent totals have been lower and the ostensible slide to defeat is slowing.

With SKULL moving up into third place, they come next. New recruit Gaxxxx takes a tumble after attracting the attentions of Shadow, and finds himself top of the loser board. It seems that he pretty much makes up most of that war, with isolated conquers elsewhere. With activity looking shaky, and Shadow finding more SKULL targets, the future looks bleak.

On the plus side, a member sent a Shadow members probably the most atrocious hatemail I have ever seen, which I am not even going to print here. I say it’s a positive because they are winning at something. They also got some conquers, and didn’t suffer as heavily as SBM or Dawn, so they can certainly take that away.

Talking of Dawn, it’s another poor showing from them. While SBM rules Shadow’s attentions, Dawn has not escaped unscathed. A solitary conquer props up a modicum of praise (congrats to Dark-Angel 47 for giving that one a go), but the deficit buries any positives. Activity is passable, and top players seem to be growing, even if they retain several members without points.

Lastly we come to BIP, newcomers to the stats this week. Despite their leader making what is probably a record number of conquers for a week, he still loses points (72 conquers of mostly 500 pointers isn’t worth much). The 10-0 deficit looks like a sign of changing attentions as SBM losses in K24/25 give way to BIP targets. The northern advance of Shadow will soon leave them fully on the frontline, and the early signs are not good.

With relatively poor activity, it doesn’t look like a positive future, even if they suffer least this week. They can only hope that their leader follows in the tradition of GR*FM and makes something of the fight.

On the Shadow side it’s a pretty traditional week. The colossal fall in world membership puts a vote for half-price nobles on the cards far sooner than any would have predicted, and that will be music to their ears. Continent dominance looks solid and no objections to their strength have come to light in the past week.

Activity remains fairly strong, though conquers are not what they have been in the past and the difference between being green and actively conquering comes to light. Even so, the same old members are plugging away and the numbers keep coming. As it stands, the stats look rosy and cheaper nobles could well spur on their dominance significantly.

In Other News

  • Shadow comes to 100% dominance in K54, but loses it in K45 so their high of 7 remains the same.

  • The world loses over 500 players in a single week, more than have left since the very beginning of the world.

As the stats show, Shadow seems to be spreading conquers reasonably evenly across the top enemy tribes, with only BIP escaping heavy defeat. It looks better for SBM, but it’s definitely bad news for SKULL and Dawn for whom 40+ conquers is a far greater proportion of their points.

On the SBM side, 58-0 isn’t going to raise any smiles, but figures are well down on what they might have been a month ago. The unfortunate loss of one of their largest players does however dismember their resistance further and hands K37 firmly into Shadow’s grasp. Only K26 remains a major SBM stronghold.

For SKULL, some positives can be drawn from the handful of conquers against Shadow, but these are unfortunately far outweighed by the losses. Their two largest players, both recent additions, remain unpopular with Shadow and account for much of the damage. Gaxxxx of Skull also takes the prize for suffering the most losses this week. Conquers remain spread all over the place too, indicating that they are firmly on the Shadow radar.

Dawn, having slipped into fourth, effect less of a presence these days. Conquers against them do at least come from the lower ranks, meaning that some larger members remain to at least hold the tribe together. 45-0 is a disappointing scoreline and one that is all the more worrying when you consider that they possess just over 600 villages. We are talking 6%+ losses, not something that any tribe wants.

BIP remain the most unmolested of the combatants, suffering only 12 losses. Head honcho Joe the Elder accounts for just about all of them and remains the favourite target for Shadow. Without SBM as a shield in K24/25, he is right on the firing line and one would expect this number to rise over the coming weeks.

Shadow looks in control again this week. A total of 242 is still solid given the conditions and it seems that their will to fight is not flagging yet. Activity remains good, and some members who are quiet do at least remain green for the tribe. With half price packets up for discussion, things could well accelerate, but this author doesn’t necessarily expect that total to double.

In Other News

  • The number of players drops below 1000; this could put half price packets on the horizon.

  • Shadow has 100% control in a record 9 continents (restarts do seem to change which precise continents it holds from week to week though).

In a week that has seen the vote for half price nobles, Shadow once again stakes its dominance against all major comers. Since that vote is drawing to a close and the price reduction looks to be a foregone conclusion, will there by more of the same to come? Will the scores double, or will it give an opportunity for a counter?

SBM retained the terrible trend from the last week and once again succumbed heavily to Shadow. 61-1 is a dismal encounter for them and goes further to show the recurring theme of that conflict. With members dropping off heavily in points and no new recruits available, it is very much a case of being severely on the ropes. While their stronghold in K26 remains firm for the moment, K24 and K25 continue to haemorrhage ground. Northern areas in 14 and 15 are sparsely populated and offer no real location for a stand. The only positive for the week might be a reasonable number of conquers; it will prolong their existence at least.

SKULL take the heaviest hit of the week, and in several different areas. Their largest players continue to decline in size and there seems to be little evidence of counter from those players. It's an abysmal week, and a solitary conquer is hardly encouraging, even if it is something. However, losing 10% of your villages will surely overshadow events.

Dawn remain less appetising fare and are spared much of the enmity of Shadow this week. A difference of 32 does however constitute a large proportion of the tribe and it is something that they can ill afford. Fortunately for Dawn, their small stature will engender fewer conquers and perhaps some members might endure. On the other hand, their largest member, rosyka, resides rather perilously in the same neighbourhood as Gaxxxx and would be the next logical target for Shadow in that area. After that, there is little left worthy of remark in the tribe and it could well be a slow slide into obscurity.

BIP escape mostly unscathed again, though an obvious apathy in their conquers surely raises questions, since theirs is a net loss of 10 villages, having only conquered 2 for the last seven days. It looks like their eponymous reverence of peacemaking is letting down their war effort and few positives can be drawn.

Shadow takes a better total this week, affirming their position. The likelihood of cheaper nobles must surely be music to their ears and will no doubt speed up their expansion. What might be even more alarming to enemies is that much of the tribe is relatively quiet, and if easier nobling were to bring back greater activity to Shadow, we could see very significant increases in those numbers. The number of players on the world is likewise dropping quickly, and it seems like everything is going their way.

So, we begin with the first week of half-priced nobles and it seems that my prediction proved correct. Whilst many might have made the simple observation that halving the price means twice the ennoblements, the reality is never that simple. It seems that Shadow is yet again being underpinned by a slight minority of individuals who are struggling to double their number of conquers.

Having said that, Shadow eases over the 300 mark this week with yet another fine set of totals against its opponents. Activity remains generally solid and the nobling effort is likely to continue healthily with cheaper nobles. Their control of 39 out of 40 ranking spots is also an impressive statistic and one which will serve to make clear their intentions for the world.

That dominance of the rankings comes mostly from the loss of justme4 from the world. SBM’s largest player, as well as the largest non-Shadow player went barb during the week and it deals a savage blow to SBM’s ambitions as well as its control of K26. It comes as wonderful news to Shadow who lose a massive potential thorn in their side seemingly by the weight of their nuking offensive upon him.

Likewise losing another 59 villages to Shadow without reply makes it a costly week and it surely cannot be much fun to be in that camp. The loss of points from justme4 puts SBM below the 10 mil mark and this is yet another milestone on the road to the end of the world. It doesn’t look like there is anything left up their sleeves.

SKULL suffers the most heavily this week, sustaining some 103 losses with only a single reply. This is thanks largely to lord trader who makes a significant gains against Gaxxxx (who has lost some 500k+ points this week) as well as efforts against pride1 and other members. It can be no good thing to lose most of your villages from top players as well as a massive percentage of your points. SKULL has been Shadow’s major target in recent weeks and the tribe is clearly buckling under the pressure.

Dawn takes yet more losses, remaining a dwindling power on the world stage. It could well be a case of conquers against them fluctuating in following weeks, depending on whether any of their players stray into Shadow’s sights. Activity is meagre in parts, but does at least remain; this author cannot help but feel it is a lost cause.

BIP is spared much of Shadow’s wrath this week, losing only 4 villages. Making only 3 conquers for the entire week, however, is never a good sign and is a damning indictment on the state of the world at this point in time. There is little to be said here it seems.

It will be interesting to see how the cheaper nobles change things. Certainly the membership of the world takes another lurch downward and opposition to Shadow is stretched thinly these days. With Shadow now many times larger than its enemies, one might be expecting a push to finish the world, but activity this week has not really hinted at it. Whatever the case, this week wraps up the same.

Well then, I am sure that you were expecting the incentive of cheaper nobles to give new energy to the world’s nobling and it has indeed done that. It is unfortunate for most of the world’s membership that this advantage sits squarely with Shadow. I shall admit that I am surprised by its total this week and that we can fully expect the rest of the world to be afraid indeed.

If we begin with SBM, we begin really at one third of those conquers. Totals in recent weeks have been evenly divided, but it seems now that SBM has been the tragic victim this week. I remember a time not so long ago when it was pushing 15 or 16 million points, and now it finds itself at merely half of that size. Heavy losses and the exodus of certain players have severely ravaged the tribe and left it seemingly at the mercy of Shadow.

132 is another massive total and the single conquer in return is unlikely to allay any destruction caused by Shadow. Members ostensibly come and go, but the story remains the same: SBM is dying. It holds 2 of the 3 remaining continents free of Shadow domination, but one would not foresee this being the case for long. K26 is likely to fall soon and K27 will be the only bastion then. Whatever the case, this week is another requiem for resistance to Shadow.

Looking down the list, SKULL likewise suffers heavy losses. 60 without reply is a significant proportion of their size; their conquers elsewhere failed to equal this and that factor likewise puts the tribe heavily in decline. Few positives can be wrought here; it is a sad story indeed.

Dawn fared similarly even if it happened to be spared some of that enmity. 40 without reply, in this case, might be less than SKULL, but it still affords them no positives. Indeed, it is no doubt the poor proximity of Dawn targets to Shadow that saves them, rather than any great defensive prudence. Again, it is another dismal affair here.

BIP ostensibly suffers the fewest losses of the bunch, but 22 without reply to Shadow, and indeed 22 when you take only 3 villages in total, effects a rather abysmal indictment on the state of the tribe. Pleasingly for Shadow, BIP completes the set, and it is heavy gains on all the top tribes.

Shadow, for its part, can take a great deal of pleasure from the fruits of the week. 395 conquers is a cracking total and one that will serve to amply demonstrate their state of affairs. They now own 41 of the world’s 44 continents and it cannot be long before we are on the final strait. The news of DNY’s victory on W12 will likewise bring hope to the members and this is evident in their performance. All in all, it’s a great week for them, and a torrid week for their opponents.

Is it really the case that we find ourselves in October already? The world is approaching two years on the go and what do we indeed have to show for it? Eyes turn to Shadow’s quest and its seemingly implacable advance. World 12 has shown the way and Shadow as yet makes the most of its time before the 3 month endgame deadlock that must surely be on the horizon.

Certainly, this week begins with a healthy total from Shadow (again) and a dismal performance elsewhere (again). Events are too easy to predict and 60+ conquers is a daily occurrence from Shadow. Activity remains solid; the sort of losses most tribes might suffer from the exodus of players over time have not materialised for them, no doubt testament to the fact that they find themselves so close to the end.

SBM do of course take the brunt of things this week, prompting another turn for the worse from them, on an otherwise bleak highway of their successive losses against Shadow. Where once 129 losses might have been a small fraction, it now constitutes a significant chunk of the tribe, and points to a dire outcome in the future. The conquers in return are little more than token and it might be simply patronising to pick up on them. There is nothing, it seems, to be done.

SKULL likewise suffer heavy losses. 73-0 isn’t exactly worth a congratulatory pint and does in fact mean that they find themselves slipping down the table. Having lost some 800k points in the last week, they have been dealt a grievous blow indeed. What there is to be salvaged here, this author doesn’t know.

Dawn might take solace in moving up into third, but their losses can hardly be congratulated either. Can it be worth anything to suffer the least? Perhaps it might just be worth something; they did, after all, make ground this week and were the only tribe here apart from Shadow to do that. What they do with this, if anything, remains to be seen.

BIP are the final entry in my list of enemies, and it is another dismal affair for them. Inactivity and apathy seem to be running high in that camp and Shadow are doing what they do best – capitalising. There really is little positive to be wrought here.

Interview

Zarin
helldad90

Why do you call yourself helldad90?

Helldad90 came about because my daughter started me off on this game just about exactly 2 years ago now. Her name is Helen and she was born in 1990, so she called herself Hell90, so when I joined up I became Helldad90 - nothing special really :) and she stopped playing after a couple of months but I had got hooked by then.

Which was your first world?

I've racked my brains about this one, and to be honest I can't remember. I have a shockingly poor memory and so may struggle on some of your questions. I think it was a world in the teens or low 20's. I was brought to TW by my daughter who was into it at that time and told me about it (that's also how my name came about!)

How did that go?

It was useful because it gave me experience in learning the game. I made lots of newbie mistakes on that first world. I remember the first time I ever had to support a village - I didn't notice the support button and ended up attacking my own village. That cost me a lot of troops and wasn't funny at the time, but it makes me smile to think of it now.

Why did you come to W27?

Coming to World 27 was random really, I tried a few worlds at the time so had about 4 on the go. 27 was just one of them. I had begun playing in August or September 2008, and joined 27 in mid December 2008, so it was one of my early worlds. It became one of my favourite worlds and as others came and went, I stuck with this one. I joined world 19 less than a month later and enjoyed that one too. Strangely enough, at my best on World 27 I had reached the rank of 19 with 2,380,601, but on World 19 I had 3,498,213 points yet was only ranked 293! Just shows how the different settings affect the worlds.

What did you think of the tribe lock?

I didn't like it and as soon as February 13th came I changed tribes. I hope they never do that again.

Which was your first tribe?

I can't remember many of the tribes I have been in and certainly can't remember my first one. Some tribes have not been very good while others have been great. On this world I have progressed through 7 tribes, beginning with SEagle then ~Fo.D~, RIM, LA-G, [IRON], LIGHT and finally SBM.

What did/do you think of LA-G?

LA-G was the first good tribe I had been in. It had good people and I learnt a lot from them. I was never around much to get to know many of them very well but I had more dealings with some people than others.

[IRON]?

[IRON] was very similar to LA-G as regards people and personalities, just a change of leadership really as far as I remember.

LIGHT?

Same goes for LIGHT. I have never had the chance to get fully involved in any tribe. This is because TW has always been a casual game to me due to my conscious decision not to let it affect my real life. Throughout my entire 2 years in TW I have had many days where I have had less than 30 minutes time to deal with all of my villages on all of my worlds and at one point that was over 600 villages.

SBM?

SBM is a great tribe with some terrific people in it. Once more I am not able to contribute to the tribal forum much because Shadow are keeping me pretty busy just lately!

What do you think of Shadow?

I don't know anything about Shadow per se, it is just a list of names. A couple of Shadow people have spoken to me, yourself and Mande1992, and both of you have been very polite and are clearly intelligent people. I imagine most of the tribe is comprised of similar people. I have found Shadow to be very well organised. There was recently at least two months when there were never less than 2000 incomings from 5 different players and that takes a lot of communication and planning. There is clearly excellent teamwork within the tribe, at least between all the people that have been involved in attacking me.

What did you think of the Coalition?

I wasn't really involved with the coalition. As I mentioned previously I have always been a casual player and didn't have time to get involved. From what I did see of it I think it never really got off the ground because there was too many players like myself who, for whatever reasons, didn't or couldn't get involved. To have succeeded it needed a lot of people to get involved and to be able to spend several hours a day on the game in my opinion.

Where do you think the battle against Shadow was lost?

Gosh, where do I think the battle against Shadow was lost? To my mind it was all over before it reached K24, and that was where my main village base was/is. What happened further away from there I don't really know. Sorry.

Why do you think that Shadow come out so convincingly against the Coalition?

I think I have already answered this question previously, it's the teamwork that has been so successful and the fact that, as far as I know and I may be totally wrong here, Shadow never tried to form a coalition with other tribes. By working within house so to speak, there was probably never a clash of egos while in coalitions this is always a problem.

Indeed, what mistakes were made in your opinion, and what should have been done?

Hard to say what should have been done. Perhaps some tribes should have merged rather than simply forming alliances, then there would have been more people to share more troops around and support each other, plus numbers would have been more equal.

Do you think it could have been successful?

I believe that anything in life can be successful if it is handled properly. With better teamwork the coalition could have been successful if it had got it's act together early enough, but it also needed players who were more dedicated to the game, with time to spare. I think most of us were like me. As I've said before I keep my real life as my priority and so only play this game casually and this limits greatly what I can do. I think many of our tribe members also value their RL over the game, and quite rightly so.

What do you think should have been done to combat Shadow?

I think there was too much in-fighting between tribes while the threat of Shadow was growing. If the various tribe leaders had spotted how Shadow was gaining ground and strength a coalition might have been formed earlier. Also, the coalition needed to have, in my opinion, a clearer direction and one overall leader to oversee operations.

What do you think has contributed most to Shadow's success?

One word for that - teamwork. Shadow plays together extremely well and co-ordinate attacks beautifully. It has been a pleasure to defend against some of these attacks (especially when I have beaten the odds on occasions).

Taking into account your ODD score, what makes you so popular as a target?

I think it must be my charming personality that makes people want to visit my villages so frequently. It sometimes feels like I'm Bilbo Baggins with constant knocks at the door as people gather in my house. Perhaps people see me as an easy target now, and to be fair, as my villages reduce, I am. In the early days when the onslaught began I think I was a challenge, and I hoped that I proved to be a suitable challenge for people. I certainly think I did well in just 30 minutes a day. Plus, of course, when it began, I was the obvious target as I had reached number 19 in the world rankings and I was the only non-Shadow player in the top 20. The initial attacks were designed to remove me from that list, in my opinion, which is the only reason I can think of to attack so many of my academies - fast removal of a lot of points from my total. My academies don't get targeted now. Once out of the list I was still the obvious target because I was still the highest ranked non-Shadow player in the world. It's what I would have done. Nowadays I am a much lower ranked player and I can only assume that the higher players are now getting more attention than me, but even so I can't be left alone and so the attacks continue. Even though I am running on fumes now I hope I am still defending to the best of my ability and providing a challenge where I can, but, alas, there is only so much I can do with what I've got.

Does Shadow deserve to win W27?

Yes undoubtedly. Shadow has complete superiority now. It doesn't matter how people talk the talk, everyone else is totally outnumbered and so, while we may take villages here and there, there is no serious threat left.

Which is your favourite part of the game?

My favourite part of the game is defence. I have never really enjoyed attack because, in my mind, it takes a lot more time to plan and co-ordinate attacks, and I have never had a great deal of time to play this game. Defense, on the other hand, doesn't take a lot of time and I enjoy sniping noble trains when I manage to pull it off.

Which is your least favourite?

My least favourite is attack for the reasons in my last answer.

Is there any player you would like to battle 1 vs. 1?

I would have loved to have played against any of the Shadow players who have collaborated against me - Zarin, Brob, Bloatedcherub, Mande, Gerick, HaleStorm, MikeStuntz, and in the early days - Pallysrange, Deciphered, Stampcoin and Braxtongold - in a 1v1 situation. It would have been very interesting to see what would have happened.

If you could only build one type of unit (except nobles) which one would it be and why?

My favourite unit, believe it or not, is the spearman. My defensive villages used to be just spears and hc's because the spear is the fastest moving foot unit and they are cheap and fast to build, plus they take a lot less iron. I know their limitations but all units have their own fors and againsts and they happen to be what I like. I went onto spears about 18 months ago when I read someone's strategy guide on World 19 which went into great detail about build time and defensive strength for various combinations of troops, and although not the strongest by any means the trade-off in time against cost and strength seemed to be the best option to me. My tribe on 19 all did the same thing which meant we could balance our research better and support each other more quickly.

How would you improve TW as a game?

Gosh, that's tough. I really enjoy it as it is and can't think of any improvements. Personally I don't like Paladin worlds or slow worlds or the coin system, so maybe TW could not create any more worlds using those things, but I know that other people must like them so you can't please everyone. Apart from that, it's been a great game that I have enjoyed very much and I just wish I had more time to dedicate to it.

What is your game plan at the moment?

My game plan at the moment? That would be giving away too much information lol ;-) Seriously though, I have given up TW on all of my other worlds and would have given up on this one too except for the fact that I am still under constant heavy attack and I am not a quitter so I'll just go on doing what I'm doing until my last village has gone, and even then I may come back a few times just to get the new Resurrection award.

What do you see for the future of W27?

W27 is over now but I see TW keeping it going because it will make money for them. If only 50 people pay their premium every month then TW gets (in English money) £200 a month and they would be loathe to throw that away I'm sure. Plus, with morale effects taken into account, it will be difficult to totally eradicate players and therefore, even though those players can't do much against Shadow, Shadow won't totally own the world. I don't know the TW rules on closing worlds but I would think that a world needs to be totally owned by one tribe to be truly over. Perhaps they should do it on a percentage basis, e.g. if one tribe owns, say, 90% or 95% of a world then the world is won. I would like it that way because everyone then knows what they're aiming for and powerful tribes can see how much they need to do to gain the win while lesser tribes can also see how much they need to do to drive back the powerful ones. There would be a clear and quantifiable cut-off point.

What do you see in store for yourself after W27?

After W27 I will retire from TW and go back to playing first-person shooters and RTS games. I can't wait to play Starcraft 2 as the original is one of my all-time favourite games, and I have been a first-person shooter fan since the original Doom came out.

What will you take away from your time here?

Over my time here I have met many people who I have got on really well with and I will remember them. I will also remember my opponents who have fought with honour and have remained courteous throughout our many battles. That's what games playing should be about. (I've learned a little about defensive tactics too!)

It is with a heavy heart that I must call an end to proceedings here. It has been a long and winding road in my time writing the Weekly, but it is one I have enjoyed immensely. I'd like to thank all those who read it, shared it, added to it, edited it, supported it, acknowledged it and generally allowed me to make something I am proud of. It means a great deal to me to look back on all I have written and understand the commitment, time and care it took to compile. It remains something close to my heart and something that I shall take with me in life.

From informing the world, to improving my written English, to aiding my world history, to getting me noticed on the world stage, it has served many purposes over its time. Now that I am here, looking back, I guess I never realised in the Sunday rush how important it was to me. It's been a real pleasure to compile the issues, to interview, to research, to comment, to try to think up something vaguely witty to say. It threatened with insanity at times, and has stressed me on many occasions, but it fills me with a deep happiness and fulfilment to know that I stuck at it.

As I close this chapter on my life, and move onto the bright lights of real blogging, I should like to once again thank all those who supported this; all those who put up with my bias, arrogance and wayward thinking; and all those who encouraged me to keep at it. I met a lot of people doing the interviews and learnt a lot about the world, the game and life in general from it. I do not exaggerate when I say that it has changed my life and I wanted to write something here to share that with you all. When I came here, I never intended to be a writer, and yet I find myself pulled in that direction; who knows what will become of it?

For the last time, as editor of the W27 Weekly, I wish you all well and thank you once again,
Zarin
