What does war bring? Death? Destruction? Loss? Pain? War brings all these things, for with war comes the cold hard reality that Life, in truth is cruel.

However what else does war bring? Hope, change, rebirth of old, and the creation of, new ideals. Like a two sided sword War brings both Pain and Hope. Life and Death. Destruction and Creation. These facts are true, for any war. I belive this to be true without war, Life would end.

Nether sat at the small table, candle light dancing wildly on the ceiling. His bloodshot eyes watched lazily as a numb finger traced a knot in the wood next to his tankard. His breathing was shallowed as his thoughts worked thier way through his mind. Scenero after scenero played before his unfocused eyes.

He smirked as he shoved the tankard to the floor, its contents spreading slowy accross the dirty planks.

Anger, it was an emotion he knew and wore well. In the past it fueled him. Kept him alive in situations where he should have tasted the blade and sent to the hell he thought he had escaped.

He knew better now, he never escaped. His prison now was this shell of flesh and blood, and he was doomed to an eternity in its cruel fleshy embrace.

His dazed eyes flashed dimly as he snuffed out the candle. Dust fell from the ceiling as another battering ram tried his door.

He closed his eyes, let them come, gods willing let them come and release me from this place, this body, this hell.

Some might say in order to sustain peace, one must be prepare for war.

But yet the manner of war surely will bring mass killing and destruction for all parties.

War exist due to the conflict of interest, philosophy, idea and last but not least Greed

When compromise and compassionate thought are diminish, war explode...

To reduce casualty of a large scale war, a duel between 2 leaders should be an ideal solution, winner will take the victory for him/herself and those siding with him/her.

War is a dreadful thing.
In reality no one wants war.
The greedy leaders force or mainpulate (typo) there citzens to join an army and go to war.
The world would obviously be a much be a much better place if there were no wars.
But in reality they will continue.
If all the countries in the world could be like Costa Rica there would be world peace. They have no army..now why can't everyone be like that?

It doesn't take an army to create war...look at some poorer countries in the middle east and africa

All you need is a decently sharp blade or a gun and you can create war

Ban weapons from the world and you're back to fists and rocks, you can still have a war but it will take much longer to fight.

A misquito's natural predator is a dragonfly.
A fish's natural predator is a whale or a shark.
A field mouse's natural predator is a snake.

A man's natural predator is a man.

War keeps man's population in check. We are living in a time where humans more and more are affected by natural disasters. This is not because they are more frequent, it is because there are more people to be affected.

We are living in a time of food shortages, and we are running out of places to live. These problems seem to be more recent problems. The UN is relatively new, and people making moves for world peace.

Is war and global living conditions correlated? is war actually beneficial to humanity as a whole?

Of course, its a socially unacceptable concept in the modern world, but it makes you wonder..

That does make me think...if there were no wars or natural disasters there would be even more poverty and cramped living conditions.

That is interesting...maybe it does influence mankind..

please tell me that is not the first time the thought has entered your mind?

Yes it's cold, cruel and socially unacceptable to say it but it's the truth.

Every animal survives and prospers because there is another animal to keep it's numbers in check, everything has a natural predator, accept for humans.
That is why humans have spread out of control and why we have a lot of our problems.
If a fox moves into some woods, it makes its den, it marks its territory, and that territory will support that fox, if another fox comes in then it can't support both, they fight, one will die or leave, balance is restored.
With humans that concept doesn't work anymore, people move in where they can't be supported, instead of being forced out they are fed, clothed, given money etc so they can live there, regardless of how unsustainable it is.
War is the only thing that is stopping that now.

onto topic of food:

People starve because there is not enough food, by sending food from here to africa you feed them for a bit, and the population rises, so more food is needed, eventually everyone starves. If you don't feed them then they starve, but the country will be limited to x amount of people, where x is the amount the country can actually sustain.

maybe you should quit shipping weaponry to africa and propping up every tin pot dictator that will let you 'civilized' europeans rape the continent?

maybe we should, and maybe that would really help things, but all governments are corrupt so it isn't going to change, if were being honest.

I thought Spiderman said " With Power comes Great Responsibility" :)

Maybe you are not a spiderman fan?? LOL

War to maintain the balance of overcrowding....interesting thought :)

But the day when humanity lost their sanity and compassion, well it will be the day of armageddon for us all.. Imagine US, RUSSIA, CHINA and other nuclear countries start launching their NUKES with the reason of "The World is not Big Enough For Us all" LOL

Another plus to war, is that it generally boosts the economy.

We don't like it, but we do need it.

Other issues issues related to overcrowding are things like the black plague in the medieval ages. (I forgot date/actual name)

Law and order will eventually kill us.
War will eventually kill us.

"In the long run, we're all dead."

I don't think this statement is true anymore...ok during WWI and WWII we saw the economy boom after the wars...

but look at Afghanistan...and Iraq and where are we now?? Yeah....

Modern war doesn't require massive industries to replace thousands of material being used up day to day on the war front anymore. Modern war now is all about winning the people over to your side through diplomacy and compassion pretty much.

In terms of material, you only need to replace some ammunition and the occasional truck that gets destroyed. Of course you have to rebuild the war torn country too but how does that help boost an economy at home when you're sending all your money to a poor country?

Rebuilding Europe was one thing but at the moment rebuilding some of these middle eastern countries isn't giving anyone much other then maaaaybe some better oil prices. If in the long run those countries stabilize and become a prime market for investors THEN we may see some benefits, but I think I'll be close to retiring when that happens (just graduated btw lol).

If there were no wars, why would we need soliders?
if we didn't need soliders how many more jobless people would that make?
and how much more strain would that put on the economy? more money to give them benefits etc, less money they spend in the shops etc
There are a lot of soldiers out there who would be jobless if we declared world peace.

also look at it from a research point of view, how much money is spent researching better and better weapons, then how much is made selling those weapons to 3rd world countries? (even if it does have to go through a middle man so we can pretend that we aren't really doing it) Every time a new improved weapon is developed, how many thousands are made to be issued to troops worldwide?
Ever watched ironman? weapons industries make lots of money (yes its a film and not realistic but you get the idea)

war is very neccessary, humans are the only things that can truely control the human population, war slows it down along with hunger, disease, etc. now you say send food to africa but just think without the food these people continue to have children who have even more children which means a higher population which means more food they need to support themselves but can't, so you send more food and ther keep reproducing and the trend continues, we as humans will most likely destroy the world it unless something terrible happens to make humans change their ways, people thought that thing would be global warming but they were wrong and the world continues on its downward spiral

Humans have one natural predator. or at least, one equal and opposing life form that can match them. And they are also humans. Either that, or aliens. You know the kind. Those Nordic Aliens that steal people for kinky sex and to show us useless maps of the cosmos.

Ahem

Pyronixcore dismounts his horse and looks down the ridge towards the planetary core. He was astounded to see the black charred battlescars carved deep into the still lush, green woodlands and forests. In the distance, snow could be seen.

It was dark here, the sky red and organge, contrasted only by the heavy black clouds roiling as heat and cold converged overhead. Fires lay a wide band of thick haze to the direct east, but was minimal to the north and west.

Settlements were appearing here. Barracks and fortresses being built, as well as containment lines and palisades designed to drive slow wedges into the enemies territory, as the enemy was doing to his own homelands.

The clamour of armour was tainted by the heavy rumbling of siege weapons.

what an interesting day this will be, he though.

How had it come to this? Where did he go wrong? Nether couldn't help but reflect on the events that had led to this moment:

The Demon stood silently, his back pressed against a mighty oak. The forest was silent save the scrapping branches of the trees as a mild breeze swept through their boney apendages. His chest rose and fell silently as his breath bellowed forth in clouds of ice and fog. Flames lept forth from beneath his ice laden lids as they gazed towards the quater moon hanging low in the night sky.

His muslces tensed as he shifted his weight and rolled onto his shoulder. His eyes pulsed lightly as the smell of blood and the sounds of loss and agony met him carried by the wind.

A sigh left his parted lips as he blinked, a slight sizzle filling the air as the flames met the ice on his flesh. Placing a hand on the trunk of the tree he pushed away gently, the bark under his hand splintering and falling to the ground.

As he walked away his body seemed to react to the moonlight visible only in her gaze and completly invisible in the shadows save the flames of his eyes.

It seemed the latest raid had failed.

It didn't matter. The count was up to 300 now. Still 150 short, he was well on his way to collecting enough souls to perform the ceremony.

With one last longing glance to the moon above, his eyes devouring her form, he turned and headed into the darkness before him. There wasn't much time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
His movement was silent and quick, almost as if he willed himself to the next location rather than walk. His eyes continued to pulse as they stared at the mark on his right forearm.
It had faded over the years but he could still see it as though he had recieved it the day before. He could still sense the power that radiated from it as he moved closer to her.
Her....
For ages he followed her, devoted himself to her, neglecting everything if only to devote that much more of himself. Then slowly she faded quietly into the night.
He used to resent her for seemingly leaving him here, abandoning him in this new land. However, the truth of her departure finally made its way into his mind. She was forced to leave by a force unresistable to any life form and slowly his resintment faded, only to be replaced by a constant longing for the sight of her form or the sound of her voice. A longing he thought hopeless, until now.
He had stumbled accross a scroll some time ago, as he tried to bury himself in the ground, trying to force a sort of death upon himself. As he burrowed into the dank rotting earth of the swamp where her tower once resided he breached a long burried chamber.
His eyes pierced the darkness of the cave as easily as day, and there in a pile of ruble he found it. He could never have missed it, her scent seemed to eminate from every inch of the document.
With trembling hands, he unrolled the parchment and read eagerly. He reread it over and over for years until he was sure he had understood it correctly.
With this document a ressurection was possible, not garunteed but possible, and it was this possibility that had driven the machine of war for the Demon for years.
I'm really enjoying your stories NetherArias and Pyronixcore. These are excellent reads and hopefully the other posters will catch on and actually add to the story instead of commenting on the posts. I just wanted to let you know I'll be moving this thread into the W8 General Discussion and it will be stickied. Keep up the nice job you 2!!
