Discussion: Update to version 8.34.1

Dear players,

Our new update will be released on Monday, the 8th of June, between 10:00 and 11:00.

The update contains security measures and minor improvements.

As usual, the worlds will be unavailable for a couple minutes during the update.

Https Switch:

We previously announced our plans to switch to https. This will happen as part of this update. For most people this should not affect you in any way and will only help to keep your account more secure. However, if you are using Quick Bar scripts that attempt to connect to a 3rd party external server insecurely (for example, to send the contents of a report for storage) the script may cease to work. This is because browsers automatically block any attempts to load any insecure content when you are viewing a secure website.

Currently there is a workaround in place that allows some Quick Bar scripts to continue functioning even if they are loading another script insecurely. This workaround will stay in place for approximately 3 weeks. After that, you will no longer be able to add new insecure scripts. Finally, after a further 3 weeks all existing scripts that are not loaded securely will stop working.

To prevent any problems in the future, script authors should act now to make sure all content required by a script is loaded securely.

Changes:
  • More report icons have been added.
  • It will be possible to use quickbar hotkeys without the quickbar being visible.
  • It is now possible to switch Paladin weapons independently of the Paladin status (alive or dead).
  • Custom graphic paths and custom css have been removed as mentioned in the 8.34 changelog. If someone is still interested in using custom css in the future, there are browser extensions which can fulfill the same function. The option to use pre-defined alternative village graphics created by winners of the "10 years" graphics contest will remain.
  • A map group name will now be updated when the associated village group name changes.
  • It is now possible to see more than 100 reports per page (up to 1000).
  • A note has been added to the defender's report if troops are visible because one third of the troops were killed (only apply to non-archer worlds).

Depending on what icons were added this could be great.

THIS IS AWESOME....Been waiting a bit for this...depending on how it comes out this would easily replace 90% of the bookmark functions of opera with your previous updates as well.

This is a great change.

NIce I do not change my groups that often but I do like this auto update.

I do like this for late to mid game.

What is the work around? Trying to fix some scripts short term until they are updated.

So the hide quickbar option is not optimal...Some quick bar options you are going to want to show...if this could be changed to have a hidden section used in the same way as the line dividers...drop the script below the divider for invisible quickbar and THOSE scripts/links do not show up.

The workaround kicks in automatically if it's possible. If you're using an old version of Opera the workaround is less likely to work. If it doesn't, the scripts must be fixed manually.

does this mean that for any worlds that release after 3 week period, so W82 and up will be unable to use scripts such as FAKeypress, but W81 and down will?

If the script is loaded via https, it will work. If it's loaded via http, you won't be able to add it on new worlds. 3 weeks after that, it will stop working on existing worlds.

If you look at the latest version FAKeypress, it's loaded like this:

javascript:cookieName="fakeypress";$.getScript('https://dl.dropbox.com/s/py6l062un5jiy2z/fakeypress.js');void(0);

The 'https://' after $.getScript means its loaded securely so it will work just fine.

Is it just for me that tw feels incredible choppy and laggy after the update? It worked fine yesterday.

I can't send a train without having it be several seconds long...

What if there is more $.getScript inside the script that gets loaded which don't have https, will the script-writers have to change all the links in their script to https for it to work or is it just the main script that needs to have https?

Everything needs to be loaded via https, otherwise the browser blocks it.

This change to https has noticeably increased lag times for things like the loot assistant. I thought it was just down to scripts but when I tried farming w/out keypress i noticed it as well, it takes a lot longer for things to load. And people are complaining about lag in their t-trains, and I've personally experienced that as well. I really don't think that making a browser game load things 'securely' is worth all this extra lag, but I guess that's just from my perspective as a player not a coder.

Any update to this or if there will be a fix to the terrible lag since the update? It is virtually impossible to send a T-train anymore, along with anything else that requires more than 2 open tabs.
