I think a request must be sent to the other tribe if you're adding them as an ally or NAP (not enemy) which on accepting, automatically colors the map accordingly. Helps in making sure that the other tribe has also set you as an ally/NAP.
However relations that are terminated will not give a notification. Just like how Facebook works where you get a notification when you get a friend request but you don't get one when someone removes you from their friend list.

Great idea. I think this would change the element of deception in the game ever so slightly to encourage honest play.
