So when exactly does this world start?

I'm confused. I thought this world was starting on the 29th on server time but i guess it's not. I live in the US so can someone please tell me when it would start then?

It's like 10 st or something, so for us 'murikans, sometime early morning tomorow.

Look at the time stamp while you're in the world. It's supposed to start at about 10:30 server time. Now look at your clock. Figure out how many hours are left until 10:30 server time then add it to your clock.

As of now at 1:57 server time we have 8 hours and 33 minutes left.

I see some villages coming out of protection before I do. Does that mean they have a headstart?

Yes, they had a headstart.
Each player is given the same ammount of BP.

They simply started the world earlier than you did. The expiration of BP has its advantages, but like many things also has disadvantages too.
