The Devil's Haircut - Nonsense or Genius-sense?

It is a song by Beck, if you haven't heard of it before.
Devil's Haircut - Beck

Code:
Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
And everywhere I look
There's a dead end waiting
Temperature's dropping at the rotten oasis
Stealing kisses from the leperous faces

Heads are hanging from the garbage man trees
Mouthwash jukebox gasoline
pistols are pointing
At a poor man's pockets
Smiling eyes ripping out of his sockets

Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind

Love machines on the sympathy crutches
Discount orgies on the dropout buses
Hitching a ride with the bleeding noses
Coming to town with the brief case blues

Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind

Something's wrong 'cause my mind is fading
Ghetto-blasting disintegrating
Rock 'n' roll, know what I'm saying
And everywhere I look
There's a dead end waiting

Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind
Got a devil's haircut in my mind

Devil's haircut! In my mind!
Devil's haircut! In my mind!
Devil's haircut! In my mind!

As Beck said himself (Yes it was in Futurama but that isn't important) "What was that song about?"
Is it just nonsense he wrote while skimming though the Becktionary or is it a metaphor for the evil of vanity?

Not really. It just doesn't make any sense to me =)
My response wasn't a serious one, I'm sorry.

Absolute nonsense, well either that or he is tripping on shrooms.

It might not necessarily be about vanity, much of the lyrics have the same sort of feel that is often attributed to lyrics that are scathing of modern day life. In this case, the apparent nonsense and insanity of the lyrics could be representing the madness that is showbiz, and the way that it is infecting everything we do, the "Devil's Haircut" taking over our every thought. He feels that in the madness we live in, everything is crumbling, nothing is pure anymore: Garbage, Orgies, leprosy, rotting, injuries... negative aspects of the putrid underbelly of society permeate the song, and those things that he once put his faith in- like rock and roll - are fading to dust, leaving an ever increasing number of dead ends, shutting him in and pushing him with inexorable inevitability into the rot he is trying to avoid.

Just a thought :p
