Update concerning trading resources

Dear players,

Due to a change in legislature in Germany we are forced to apply 19% taxes on virtual transactions like i.e. sending resources through the marketplace. This is calculated upon the theoretical value of resources. An upcoming update will force any player using the marketplace to pay taxes on traded resources.

This change comes of course as an aftermath to the financial crisis which forces governments to extreme actions. InnoGames, the company that owns Tribal Wars, is as a German company forced to comply to the German law.

Hard facts:
With the oncoming update 19% of the estimated monetary value of resource transactions will be charged (as real money).
How much taxes you need to pay depends on the amount of resources that are being produced an traded. This will be calculated once per day.

The taxes will be 19% of the total sum of all resources. There will be a table available which lets you see how much taxes are charged.

The marketplace screen will additionally display how much taxes have to be paid as you enter the resource values and in the list of available transactions. An icon will appear if a trade is bound to taxes.

On a world that has been online for about two weeks an estimated 4ct (0.04 EUR) will be charged per 1000 resources (the estimated value of 1000 resources at that time is 0.20 EUR). On a world that has been running for one year and above the taxes drop below 0.01 EUR per 1000 resources.

We are still thinking about a useful method on how to implement per-trade-payment of the taxes. Hopefully you will be able to prepay a virtual amount of taxes using premium points.

This is a quote of the German law change:

Quote:Gesetz zur Reduzierung der Ungleichbehandlung im Steuerwesen (ReUgbhStw)

Artikel 1: An § 13 Abs. 1 UStG wird angehängt: "10. für über Telekommunikation erbrachte immaterielle Leistungen"

Artikel 2: Dieses Gesetz tritt zum 01. Mai 2009 in Kraft.

We are very sorry that playing Tribal Wars will become more expensive. Unfortunately we need to comply with the German law in this case. The update will be implemented before May 1st 2009.

Your Tribal Wars Team

Now, I dont understand German, but does this actually legally apply to games such as this? If so, how in the world does it make sense to force players to pay in what is primarily a free game online?
