umm, thats because of the legend of the "Drop bear", there is some australian legends about a beast (not much unlike a koala) which drops from treetops unto unsuspecting passerbys. They are supposedly far more ferocious than simple koalas, and far more deadly.

also, that picture is a drawing of a drop bear, you can see because of the eye color and the slightly longer claws =)
