Player vs. Player, Round 3

Erm, one question gryf? Why do u6 and axl get into the winners bracket on 2-1 record, yet everyone in the losers bracket is also 2-1?

Because, technically, they should have had the "bye" and sat out Round 3.
In round 4, the (then) four undefeated players would have been matched up against each other while the 4 players with one loss each would also face each other.

The people who have actually faced each other so far and the order in which they are facing each other is not changing. I was just postponing the dreaded concept of explaining a "bye" fight as long as possible, I guess.

A double-elimination tournament is broken into two sets of brackets, the Winners Bracket and Losers Bracket (also sometimes Upper Bracket and Lower Bracket, respectively). All winners of the first round proceed into the Winners Bracket and all the losers proceed into the Losers Bracket. The Winners Bracket is then conducted in the same manner as a single-elimination tournament, except of course that the losers of each round eventually "drop down" into the Lower Bracket.

u6s5l. and AxlThecat are two players. They will drop down into the Losers Bracket when there are two opponents left in the Losers Bracket for them to face. The net result is, that players in the Lower Bracket of a double-elimination tournament can have 2x as many match ups as the players in the Upper Bracket... BUT, they still have a chance to continue on, unlike in a single-elimination contest where they would already be out of the game entirely! Also unlike a single-elimination contest, a double-elimination competition produces a clear cut 3rd place finisher. That is why it is often the type of tournament style used in Olympic martial arts competitions.
