What is 'farming' in TW?

I researched how to play game as a newbie. But I don't know well about 'farming', is this attacking bonus villags or babarian villages?
And, as spearmen, how many spearmen are proper to attack villlages?

if the world just started, farm barbs with 2 spears 2 swords, lvl 0 wall. once you get losses you need to ram those walls down.

if it didnt just start, use like 5 light cavalry or more.
